Position Overview: Headquartered in Reston, VA, Thinkblot Behavioral Sciences serves organizations challenged with selecting, sustaining, and developing personnel in high-trust, high-risk, or otherwise exceptional occupations. Thinkblot primarily serves public safety departments, but also provides services to private security firms, religious organizations, and other organizations with unique assessment needs.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Editor to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be to review, revise, and refine written psychological reports to ensure they meet our high standards of clarity, grammar, style, and tone. You will work closely with other editors and subject matter experts to enhance the overall quality, accuracy, coherence, and impact of our written communications.

Responsibilities

Proofread and edit written psychological suitability evaluation reports for clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style adherence.
Ensure accuracy, coherence, and consistency of reports, adhering to company editing guidelines and tone.
Collaborate with writers, content creators, and subject matter experts to improve the quality of written materials.
Conduct thorough fact-checking and verification of information to ensure accuracy and credibility by checking interview protocol, doctor’s notes, and audio recordings of interviews when necessary for clarification.
Rewrite and restructure content as necessary to enhance readability, flow, and organization.
Provide feedback and guidance for psychologists to improve their writing skills and ensure consistency.
Ensure adherence to editorial policies, style guides, and established guidelines.
Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to editing and content creation.
Prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
Work closely with the editing team and administration to ensure the final product meets quality standards.

Schedule

25 hours per week (9am-2pm EST with some flexibility)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field (or commensurate experience) preferred.
Proven experience as a non-fiction editor, preferably in a professional (court, scientific, medical, etc.) setting.
Strong command of the English language, including excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Proficiency in using style guides such as The Chicago Manual of Style and the Modern Language Association Style Manual, or others.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, including Microsoft Word using track changes and comments, Outlook, and Teams.
Familiarity with content management systems and editing tools.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
