Job description for Scientist II in Platform Discovery
Position Summary:
hC Bioscience is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with the development of first-in-class tRNA-based therapeutics targeting protein dysfunction. hC Bioscience’s innovative approach to precision protein editing has the potential to treat genetically defined conditions which account for 10-15% of all human diseases.
tRNA as a molecule can be viewed as a platform from which many variations can be implemented to treat a wide variety of diseases. As part of the Platform Discovery team you will develop novel and creative uses of this platform, and gathering data to translate these new applications towards clinic-ready products. This position will enable biological insights from multi-omic data including nextgen sequencing, mass spec, flow cytometry, ribosome profiling, and more. This role will span from the bench, growing cells, processing samples, making libraries, through to data generation, analysis, and interpretation. This position will lead studies based on insights from these large datasets to explore mechanism and physiology of tRNA therapeutics.
Ideal candidates will marry expertise in cell biology, RNA biochemistry, tRNA biology, and protein translation. Candidates should be comfortable leading how we think about safety and efficacy of this new therapeutic modality. As scientist II, candidate is expected to lead multidisciplinary projects including external partnerships with CRO and academic partners, enable strategic conversations with leadership team, and and manage a research associate.
Key Responsibilities:
· Drive projects to analyze tRNA expression from cell culture and diverse animal tissues
· Execute a variety of cell-based assay’s to explore cellular responses to tRNA therapy
· Design and manage multi-omic experiments including ribosome profiling, mRNA-seq, tRNA-seq, and proteomics, incorporating CROs and academic partners.
· Flexibility to incorporate new model systems for cancer and rare diseases.
· Collaborate and communicate with multiple internal and external teams.
· Rigorous documentation and note keeping to support data curation and sharing among teammates
Qualifications & Experience:
· PhD with 2+ years of experience with cell biology, RNA biology, and multi-omics
· Experience determining mechanistic function of biological pathways with diverse biochemical and cell biological techniques.
· Standard molecular biology techniques: mammalian cell culture, flow, plasmid design, agarose gel, protein gel, DNA/RNA extraction.
- Proficiency in software such as Graph Pad, Microsoft office etc. for data analysis and figure generation is required. Experience with R or Python is preferred.
