We’re a recently established global battery enterprise and a subsidiary of the Tata Group which owns Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors. We’ll be pioneering the design, development, and manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) at our state-of-the-art gigafactory in the UK. Our gigafactory is expected to have a capacity of 40 GWh per year and will be based at a site in Somerset.
This role requires a technical expert, with a proven track record of delivery, to develop a cell and battery lifetime model suite and coordinate associated workstreams. The role sits within the Product Engineering Team however cross-functional working and collaborations will be essential.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible to develop and deliver the cell ageing and battery lifetime model suite predicting degradation behaviour over a range of operational conditions.
- Support the design of experiments to obtain the required data across different cell formats and chemistries.
- Support calibration and validation of Ageing models and development of experimental methodologies that will enable model validation.
- Collaborate with ECM and electro-thermal and mechanical modelling team members investigating cell parameterization related to cell performance and cycle life.
- Work cross-functionally engaging with teams around cell design, validation and integration.
Essential Experience & Skills
- PhD in Chemistry, Engineering or related subject
- Advanced skill in Matlab programming / Simulink modelling
- Proven track record of delivering cell & pack ageing modelling with automotive application.
- Good understanding of Li-ion battery cell working principles including aging mechanisms
- Ability to review and critically appraise data and empirical literature
- Able to work under own initiative with proactive approach to problem solving
