JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summary: The Quality Control Manager oversees the comprehensive quality management of the production facility, ensuring compliance with company Food Safety and QA standards. Responsible for leading a team of Quality Control Associates, the manager collaborates with production leadership to uphold regulatory requirements and meet customer specifications. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Director, the QC Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining product quality through inspection, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management:
- Maintain and uphold all Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs and certifications.
- Lead and develop the Quality Control team to execute company QC and HACCP plans.
Compliance Assurance:
- Ensure the production facility adheres to regulatory, Food Safety, and company standards.
- Conduct internal audits to verify adherence to Food Safety systems.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Manage all internal documentation within the facility.
- Verify daily QC and QA records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Product Specifications and SOPs:
- Maintain product specifications, ensuring compliance within the facility.
- Develop and manage company SOPs and HACCP plans as required.
Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with QA leadership to develop and implement new procedures and policies for increased business effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Contribute to the development of new products and processes with a focus on food safety and quality control.
Audits and Certifications:
- Plan, prepare, and participate in various audits, including organic, kosher, customer, FDA, internal, and 3rd party audits.
- Sustain and improve ratings on annual certifications.
Problem Resolution and Leadership:
- Address daily Food Safety issues related to product quality non-conformance.
- Provide leadership in resolving employee problems, complaints, and grievances.
- Support and train department managers to achieve goals, fostering a culture of teamwork and open communication.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience leading Food Safety & QC Teams in food manufacturing.
- 3+ years of experience as a decision maker interacting with customers, suppliers, regulators, and production leadership.
- BS in Chemistry, Biology, Food Safety, Food Science, or related field required; MS in Food Science or related field desirable.
- HACCP Certification required.
- Solid understanding of Food Safety preferred (Seafood/Meat)
- Knowledge of government regulations and labeling requirements preferred.
- Experience in production, manufacturing process flows, and lean manufacturing preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage Food Safety and Quality systems across departments and multiple locations.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects on time.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and garner support.
