Job expectations for a Tier III IT Service Desk Technician/Engineer:
Tier III must have high level of technical expertise, specialization, and leadership experience. Must have a Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience with information systems, processes and procedures, and knowledge of current hardware, software wide-area-networks.
Must have or be in the process of achieving the following Technical Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE): Recognized as one of the most prestigious certifications in the networking industry, CCIE validates expert-level skills in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting complex network infrastructures.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert: Certifications from Microsoft demonstrating expert-level proficiency in designing, implementing, and managing cloud solutions or enterprise environments.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional: Validates advanced skills in designing and deploying scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform.
- VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX): The highest level of VMware certification, VCDX validates expert-level skills in designing and implementing VMware solutions in complex enterprise environments.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP): Advanced cybersecurity certification for professionals with significant experience in the field, relevant for Tier 3 technicians responsible for security architecture and operations.
- Project Management Professional (PMP): While not strictly a technical certification, PMP certification demonstrates proficiency in project management methodologies and practices, valuable for Tier 3 technicians leading complex IT projects.

Tier III Position Responsibilities:
- System Architecture and Design: Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex IT systems and architectures, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and develop robust solutions that align with business objectives.
- Network Infrastructure Management: Design, configure, and manage enterprise-level network infrastructures, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks. Implement advanced networking protocols, security measures, and performance optimizations.
- Cloud Solutions Architecture: Architect, deploy, and manage cloud-based solutions using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Develop cloud migration strategies, optimize resource utilization, and ensure compliance with best practices and security standards.
- Cybersecurity Expertise: Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity strategies, policies, and controls to protect against cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and data breaches. Conduct security assessments, audits, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate risks.
- Project Leadership and Management: Lead IT projects from initiation to completion, including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, scheduling, and stakeholder communication. Coordinate cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure project objectives are met within scope, time, and budget constraints.
- Vendor and Supplier Management: Manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers to procure IT equipment, software licenses, and support services. Negotiate contracts, evaluate vendor performance, and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
- Change Management and IT Governance: Develop and enforce change management processes, policies, and procedures to minimize disruptions and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Implement IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, COBIT, or ISO/IEC 27001.
- Documentation and Knowledge Management: Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT systems, architectures, configurations, and procedures. Establish and manage knowledge repositories, wikis, and documentation libraries to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration within the IT team.
- Mentorship and Training: Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical training to junior engineers, technicians, and team members. Share expertise, best practices, and industry trends to foster professional growth and development within the organization.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and innovation within the IT infrastructure and operations. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and industry developments to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.
