Operations Manager Overview
The operations manager plans and directs all aspects of operations and engineering and design activities within the organization, ensures that all operations and engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformity with the organization’s established policies, procedures, and objectives. The operations manager utilizes best practice operations and engineering methods to provide expert technical guidance for operations and engineering and design initiatives.
They incorporate all functions related to manufacturer / product selection and testing for solutions to be used in our organization.
The role also involves providing training and technical leadership to operations and engineering personnel regarding system operations, system deployment, system programming and commissioning, standards, and maintenance.
The operations manager must have a strong technical understanding of products and systems as a whole and how to design and deploy such products and systems.
The operations manager must have strong people and project management and organization skills ensuring field operations project managers, supervisors, installers, subcontractors, designers, and engineers fulfill objectives on time, on budget and produce quality deliverables. Additionally, the operations manager shall be a contributor to the operations and engineering team by producing, reviewing, and approving, designs, estimates, proposals, and other deliverables, conduct site surveys and possess the skills and experience necessary in successfully competing these tasks.
The operations manager coordinates and directs project plans, making sure that the plans are followed-up in detail to accomplish the desired objectives.
For positions approved by executive management, the operations manager is responsible for recruiting qualified employees to whom they assign and designate tasks in an organization and manage the development of staff abilities and suitability.
The operations manager shall possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Roles & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Deliberate with management, operations, and sales staff on requirements and procedures for a project
· Organize and manage projects, designs, and operations and engineering teams, making detailed plans that work towards the fulfillment of a set objective
· Examine technology and tools for inclusion into the organization’s solution offerings and internal use
· Assemble, maintain and improve the operations and engineering division’s processes, templates and deliverables
· Direct, evaluate, and confirm solution designs and changes
· Recruit, assign, direct, and evaluate employees within the operations and engineering department
· Supervise the development of staff abilities and suitability in the organization
· Develop designs, estimates, SOW’s, proposals, schedules and other documents and deliverables
· Set technical and performance goals in the confines of the organization with the aid of management
· Assemble status and other reports and results for management and clients
· Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the operations and engineering and technical work performed in the organization
Experience & Qualifications
Knowledge/Education
· Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in project management within the construction industry
· Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Possess sound logic, reasoning, and decision making skills
Job Experience
· 5+ years of operations and engineering / design experience
· Experience in corporate environment highly desired
Skills/Competencies
· Ability to use independent judgment in ensuring smooth operations of organization
· Multi-tasking skills critical
· Proficient skills with MS Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and survey and estimation tools required
· Attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate deliverables and high levels of quality
· Must be flexible, team oriented, self-starter, and able to work independently
· Must be well organized, and possess good customer service skills
· Able to perform new tasks without detailed guidance
