SF New Deal (SFND) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides supportive services and financial opportunities for small businesses in San Francisco. Our mission is to strengthen neighborhoods by making it easier for under-resourced small business owners to succeed. We envision and are building towards a vibrant San Francisco with diverse and thriving small businesses.
Our team is growing rapidly to build and deliver innovative and responsive community-centered solutions to some of San Francisco’s most persistent challenges. Since our launch in March 2020, we’ve had significant impact and disbursed over $45 million dollars to 1,300+ small businesses citywide. Our work is funded through private donations and government contracts.

About the Role
The Financial Management Program Manager at SF New Deal will work to support the organization's efforts in developing and delivering new programming in support of small businesses in San Francisco. The PM will lead the launch and management of financial management and coaching programs aimed at increasing financial literacy and providing sustainable solutions for small businesses to succeed and thrive. These programs may address a wide spectrum of ecosystem needs that go beyond financial success and business management, such as environmental sustainability, employment equity, and working to bridge language, cultural, and technology gaps.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to navigate situations involving many stakeholders, exceptional people skills, an understanding of the challenges faced by small businesses, a dedication to advancing equity in the small business ecosystem and will be motivated to leverage their professional experience in pursuit of the best possible outcomes for small businesses citywide.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management (80%)
- Work with the Director of Programs, and internal and external partners to launch new financial management programming to support small business owners in San Francisco
- Lead our technical assistance and financial management initiatives for small businesses and operators
- Oversee subcontractors and external partners to deliver ongoing financial coaching services
- Collect and synthesize program evaluation data to enhance program design and service outcomes
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager and Impact Team to build and maintain comprehensive databases and documentation to meet internal and external reporting requirements and demonstrate program impacts
- Develop and scale program policies and best practices in collaboration with other departments
Research (10%)
- Work with the Director of Programs and the Director of Partner Success to design, develop and distribute financial development plans with short-and-long-term goals to address challenges for small business owners in San Francisco
- Conduct research to identify successful methods for providing financial services to small businesses to address any unmet needs
- Collaborate with department leads to track program impact and improvements
Networking & Relationship Development (10%)
- Work with Partner Success to recruit and cultivate connections with the small business community in San Francisco so that we may better understand their needs and engage them in our programming
- Vet and foster relationships with community partners, financial management coaches and organizations
- Manage stakeholder and partner relationships in ways that further advance our mission, strengthen our community relationships, and increase quality and impact of services
Key Proficiencies
- 2+ years of experience with project management, with specific experience in providing financial management services to small businesses
- Experience designing and implementing workflow processes to set and meet goals, and execute on a vision
- Experience in technical assistance and fiscal management best practices
- Direct stakeholder management experience, city or government experience preferred
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with a drive to develop strategic partnerships
- Direct experience in Government funding, budgeting and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical and communication skills in a high-volume environment
- Familiarity with the challenges facing small businesses
- A sense of humor and high EQ
- Fluency in Spanish or Chinese is highly desirable

Approximate Weekly Time Required: 40 hrs/week
Preferred Work Days for this role: Monday - Friday
Salary range: $90,000-$100,000, depending on experience

Reports To: Director of Programs
Location: Our team is based in the Bay Area but we work from home. We get together in person in San Francisco regularly. For this particular role, you need to live in San Francisco and expect to spend time regularly in neighborhoods citywide in San Francisco. This role also requires a lot of time on the computer and the phone.
