Network Engineer- Norfolk Virginia (onsite)
Job Description:
- Deploy functional wired/wireless campus networks ( LAN ,
WLAN ,
WAN ).
- Monitor network performance and integrity to determine if improvements need to be made.
- Resolve issues escalated from helpdesk by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure.
- Work with third party vendors to keep the network running efficiently.
- Communicate with network users to resolve network issues.
- Maintain complete technical documentation.
- Perform analysis and collect data to establish the potential for improvements within the
NSU network. Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Considerable experience in customer support, including problem definition and resolution for both network hardware and software.
- Considerable experience with Cisco router and switches
- Considerable experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. Cisco Prime Infrastructure, SolarWinds network tools).
- Considerable knowledge and experience configuring DNS and DHCP.
- Demonstrated In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF).
- Considerable experience administering campus/organization LAN/WAN environment, including wireless access points.
- Experience with NAC is desirable, especially Cisco ISE.
- Demonstrated hands-on network troubleshooting experience.
- A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
2-5 years’ experience administering Cisco in LAN/WAN environment.
- Experience with access control models and network security.
- Technical knowledge of current network technologies, protocols, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research related to networking issues and products as required.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to present technical information in a user-friendly manner.
- Solid background in network administration and architecture.
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS)
- Industry certifications such as CCNP a plus
Requirements Experience Required: 3 or more years of business development experience selling to senior business and IT stakeholders Experience Required: Demonstrated achievement in sales in the IT industry. Proven successful experience selling cloud, service desk, network operations services, information technology solutions and/or other recurring revenue. Proven, successful experience selling project based, professional services with an information technology focus Strong understanding of how enterprises and business functions utilize services offerings from vendors to drive improved efficiency, financial results and employee engagement Demonstrated ability to handle objections and drive best new practice ideas to impact their business Understanding of client’s needs and IT pain points and the ability to translate them into sales opportunities that create true business value Inherent ability to influence others regarding complex topics – hunter mentality and self-starter Socially comfortable speaking with strangers across a broad range of business and information technology topics The ability to handle pressure, meet deadlines, and be accountable for results Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation of group presentations Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
