About the Company and Role
Curve Biosciences™ (“Curve”) is pioneering the field of Chronic Epigenetics™ to bring precision to chronic disease care. Curve builds products targeting biological changes in tissues that occur in the development and progression of chronic diseases. Our Whole Body Tissue Atlas (WBTA) uniquely discovers such precise changes with data from over 250,000 tissues across more than 1,000 clinical studies. Curve’s initial focus is on chronic disease testing markets with a broader goal of unlocking our disease drivers for other clinical applications.
We’re looking for a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll enable impactful molecular diagnostics tests by leading design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge software solutions for our automated laboratory systems and data analytics pipelines. You’ll also collaborate with cross-functional teams, including bioinformaticians, laboratory scientists, automation engineers, and Contract Research Organizations. This role’s level, compensation, and responsibilities will be based on the applicant’s experience. This lead role is expected to initially engage in significant hands-on contribution but, if desired, can evolve to have both functional leadership and high level design responsibilities of our software stack, team, and culture.
Job Responsibilities
Working directly with the Chief Technology Officer, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and deployment of crucial software solutions for our diagnostics laboratory
- Developing and implementing the technical strategy for software development, thereby ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices
- Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand user needs, define technical requirements, and deliver high-quality software solutions that meet regulatory and clinical standards (CLIA, CAP)
- Working with cross-functional computational colleagues (bioinformatics, data science) on projects pertaining to biomarker discovery, molecular test classifiers, and generative ML
- Ensuring robustness, scalability, and reliability of software applications through rigorous testing, code reviews, and continuous integration practices
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation of software designs, code, and development processes to ensure transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing
- Leading the design, development, and maintenance of LIMS software solutions
- Developing and maintaining software that integrates with laboratory instruments and external systems to ensure seamless data flow
- Implementing features for data tracking, sample management, workflow automation, and reporting
- Developing drivers for automated instruments and scheduling software to govern entire robotics stack of instruments
- Working with the laboratory team to build a suite of laboratory metric reporting systems that will be used to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Troubleshooting and resolving software-related issues, thereby ensuring timely delivery of high-quality solutions
- Managing project timelines, resources, and budgets, thereby ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope
- Setting up virtual machines for remote control of robotic/automated laboratory systems
Baseline Job Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computational Biology or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year work experience in a software development role
- Strong leadership and people management/soft skills
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Fluent in at least three the following: C#, Python, R, JavaScript, Django, C++
- Basic knowledge of relational databases and an understanding of how to set them up in an efficient manner
- Deep understanding of object oriented programming.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Job Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of molecular diagnostics, bioinformatics, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Deep prior experience with building LIMS systems for molecular diagnostics laboratory
- Prior work experience in a CLIA CAP setting
- Knowledge and understanding of how a molecular diagnostics company functions
- Prior experience writing controlling software for a heavily automated laboratory.
