Position Summary
Hay House’s Managing Editorial team is looking for a temporary assistant to help with a large-scale project for 3 months. In this role, the assistant will be updating specific details within Hay House products, reviewing print-ready files to ensure changes are made, and logging specific information in both a tracking system and our in-house database. Additionally, the assistant may be called on to do basic proofreading and reviewing of print-ready files for our front list and reprinting titles as well as manage projects to ensure accuracy within our in-house database and project management software.
Responsibilities and Expertise
- Review print-ready files and ensure that specific changes have been made before files are sent to print
- Maintain a tracking system of titles that have received changes and update the database to reflect which titles have received changes
- Proofread covers and review interiors to ensure accuracy of data and absence of errors as needed
- Work on database enhancement projects, ensuring that our in-house database and project management software hold up to date and accurate information
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Proactively communicate the progress and asks for support when needed
- Aims to do great work: High attention to detail with ability to work independently and meet deadlines effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education and/or Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in Managing Editorial/Production Editorial, Publishing, or non-scientific corporate environment
- Theoretical knowledge typically achieved through a related four-year college experience, such as a Bachelor’s degree in Publishing, English, Communications, Art, Business Administration, or equivalent
- Experience proofreading on PDF for grammar, style, and typographical errors as well as general layout issues, with knowledge of Adobe commenting tools
- Proficiency with Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
- Strong experience with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel required
- Experience working in Asana and Slack a plus
- Comfort in the digital workplace product databases, project management software, file-sharing websites, etc.
