Job Overview:
The Developmental Editor is responsible for delivering course content via partnerships with external contractors and internal stakeholders. The Development Editor will execute work-for-hire agreements, manage relationships with contractors, and act as the editor for drafts received from these contractors. This position is responsible for version control and management of the project from inception to release. The Developmental Editor works closely with the Product Management, LXD, and Education Technology teams to plan timelines and deliver course assets.
Responsibilities:
- Manage tactical aspects of partner relationships, including schedules, content development guidance, and monitoring deliverables
- Manage contractors beginning with the contract addendum through completion of course asset creation
- Execute contracts/work-for-hire agreements for contractors
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors
- Assign projects to contractors as needed
- Intake drafts from contractors
- Maintain tracking for all in-progress projects, ensuring that all drafts are cataloged and all tracking systems kept up-to-date
- Ensure all contractors execute against agreed-upon tasks, escalating concerns about contractors to internal stakeholders (Product Managers, LXD Managers)
- Evaluate drafts to ensure learning objectives and goals are met and that templates are followed; if the contractor's draft does not meet expectations, coach the contractor and/or hire additional freelance help as needed
- Participate in roadmap planning meetings to advise on contractor and internal editorial capacity
