Communications and Marketing Support Internship in Sustainable Tourism & Travel Industry
Bellevue, Washington based travel company seeks a Marketing/Communications Assistant, a perfect position for a student of communications or journalism. This position will work with the Company founder/CEO to help implement a variety of marketing and communications strategies with a goal of increasing awareness, establishing credibility of the brand and creating further business opportunities for GFT.
Project Scope:
This position will assist GFT’s communications strategy for both our global and local trips, with ongoing foundational learning provided by GFT to intern. The intern will assist with marketing content for Social Media Management, managing images and written content to assist the social media team. This entails learning from and supporting the CEO and Marketing team in creating and deploying branding and marketing for programs.
Duties will include managing Social Media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
- Assist in creating content for various marketing images to promote GFT and our trips through outreach and engagement
- Occasionally research for Blog writing, MailChimp newsletters, website, and social media outlets and occasional calendar listings;
- Help Curate relevant content to reach the company’s ideal customers.
- Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video and written).
- Help us grow our Tik Tok presence and drive business via that channel
- Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads and sales.
- Develop and expand community outreach efforts.
- Assist with marketing content for Social Media Management, managing images and written content to assist the team; and helping to organize our social media calendar.
- Assist with graphics for monthly newsletters, press releases, blog posts and other marketing materials.
- Assist in creating various marketing images in Canva to promote GFT and our trips through outreach and engagement. (note, we do have a graphic team / support you will engage with!)
- Assistance in Social media management (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Google+)
- Run Google Analytics report on monthly basis
- Oversee design (ie: Facebook, Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, and blog).
- Design, create and manage promotions and Social ad campaigns.
- Compile report for management showing results (ROI).
Skills and Qualifications:
- In the process of earning a degree or a 4-year degree in business, tourism, education, communications, or a related field.
- Detailed oriented and willing to learn new things.
- Creative imaging design and writing a plus (Use of Canva highly recommended)
- Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills. Attention to detail is a must -punctuation, spelling and grammar, content formatting, etc.
- Highly organized and detail oriented with strong project management skills
- An interest in travel, tourism, sustainability, environment/climate change issues, social enterprise, and innovation, plus some knowledge of international relations or global development issues
- Should be self-motivated and comfortable balancing competing deadlines, managing multiple and often-shifting priorities, and working on a team.
- Can work autonomously in a virtual environment and meet metrics for number of daily posts
- Works well with a team and can attend regular meetings online or in-person (weekly or bi-weekly)
- Enthusiastically takes ownership of new initiatives.
- Contributes ideas to help grow subscribership and improve content quality.
- Experience in online marketing with an understanding of campaign performance tracking, email best practices, and data driven marketing tactics, is a PLUS!
Hours and Compensation:
- Time Commitment: This internship requires project work for at least 15 hours per week working remotely from July to mid-December, with the opportunity to join our growing team in the future.
- Compensation: We provide a monthly stipend starting at $600 for the first 3 months probationary period, and then increase the stipend for the rest of the school year; or hire on an hourly basis once this period is over.
Please note: This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed. Independent contractors are required to pay all self-employment taxes (Social Security & Medicare) as well as income tax.
