Overview

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible to perform all collection activities (Determine risk, making collection calls and sending emails regarding unpaid invoice account balances, and applying payments) for customer accounts in accordance with the company's policies and practices in a manner that will result in maximum sales, sound receivables and their prompt conversion to cash. You may be authorized to extend payment deadlines or coordinate repayment schedules to ensure compliance. This is a skilled position that requires experience in a related field.
Role & Responsibilities
- Review bad debt and bankruptcy customer accounts to ensure that accounts follow appropriate collections and billing protocols according to corporate policy.
- Analyze risk exposure based upon customer payment patterns, credit sources and by performing financial analysis.
- Review accounts to identify past due customers and to determine proper course of action.
- Plans and maintains a program for the systematic follow up and collection of amounts due.
- Review aged accounts placed with outside collection vendors to ensure collection activity is still viable and appropriate.
- Work with sales management to establish and monitor credit for marginal risk accounts.
- Contact appropriate customers, in writing, to correct, prevent or minimize delinquency.
- Prepare analysis for customers to resolve collection issues.
- Analyze accounts for legal pursuit by outside collection vendors.
- Build strong relationships within customer hierarchy to help resolve complex issues.
- Respond to requests, which include researching payments, contractual adjustments, payment arrangements, audits, etc.
- Recommend accounts which should be written off as bad debts and thoroughly document history.
- Maintain file of customer contacts, agreements and documentation.
- Provide management with status logs and reports as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
- Ability to analyze complex problems and identify solutions
- Strong ambassadorial and negotiation skills
- Strong QuickBooks skills
- 3 to 5 years of experience in credit and collections
- Professional certifications such as ACA, CICM, or ACCA is an advantage
- Proficient in Software applications such as MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point
- Ability to anticipate problems, and recommend solutions
- You have excellent organizational skills, and work with high levels of autonomy and self-direction.
