Welcome to Chief Media!
We’re a New York City based, data-focused media agency specializing in TV and streaming. Join our data science team to help us build new data products, push our analytics capabilities, and contribute to our clients’ success.
This team lays the groundwork for data analysis and media campaign optimization by designing and managing data products and frameworks, building data pipelines, and transforming raw and complex data into actionable insights for better business decision making.
The Role
Our analytics offering has been built to provide a granular and prescriptive media performance reporting product and is a key tenet of our value-add as an agency. Our data and engineering teams are small, but we’ve created a robust, cloud-based data foundation that supports an extremely capable stack of analytics and software products. In other words, our work isn’t munging data in Excel and calling it data science.
You’ll be working primarily on business intelligence product development and client-facing data presentations and analyses. We love building things and we’re looking for candidates who love building things too. We’re also big on testing creative ideas – we understand that plenty of ideas fail before we find the true gems, and you’ll be given the freedom to express your own creativity.
In any given day, your responsibilities might include:
- Analyzing and visualizing media performance data using some form of BI (Business Intelligence) tool or code.
- Using your data ability to create in-depth, client-specific data presentations to highlight the truly insightful things you just can’t get from a pivot table and a line graph.
- Using your technical skills to build queries and scripts to support and improve existing data and BI products.
- Answering critical campaign performance questions from internal teams.
- Coming up with and pitching ideas you feel will add value to our product stack.
- Looking for ways to extract added value from our existing datasets.
- Helping build and expand the company’s data culture.
Core Requirements
The things we’d like you to have to be successful from the outset:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field.
- At least one year of experience in a client or stakeholder facing data role.
- Comfortable presenting technical content to non-technical audiences and groups.
- At least one year of experience using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) in an industry setting.
- Demonstrable ability in SQL (we use Postgres).
- Demonstrable experience translating abstract business problems into quantitative data problems.
- Competency and confidence applying scientific principles to analyses and product development.
Bonus Points
The things that will make you really stand out:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or physical science, or a master’s degree in a STEM field.
- Demonstrable ability with the Python scientific stack.
- Experience conducting independent research in an industry or education setting.
- Experience in marketing or advertising. Extra points for experience in a media agency setting.
- Understanding of data modeling best practices, with emphasis on applying them in analytics pipelines.
