Located in Concord, MA at the New England District of the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Risk and Decision Science Team of the Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory provides hands-on experience through permanent full-time positions applying techniques from risk & decision science to topic areas in civil, environmental, and systems engineering, management, planning, and restoration, as well as projects in energy, military support, and homeland security. Our team provides unique opportunities to participate in high-impact basic research on cutting-edge issues and mission-critical applied research addressing national challenges.
Recent projects that employees have had the opportunity to work on include:
- Building networks relating to Bronze Age civilizational collapse
- Developing methods and metrics to assess infrastructure system resilience
- Data analytics and tool development for the COVID-19 response in FEMA Region-1
- Developing strategic frameworks for humanitarian assistance and disaster response
- Optimizing dredging operations, invasive species control, and infrastructure investments
- Stakeholder engagement and characterizing uncertainty for environmental management
