OUR MISSION:
We inspire overnight travel to the Santa Barbara South Coast in order to enhance the community’s economy and quality of life.
HOW THIS CONTRACT FURTHERS OUR MISSION:
1) The Regional Sales Representative operates as an independent contractor to provide large group sales leads that convert to definite contracts through June 2025.
2) This project includes uncovering new clients with annual business of 300 room nights, or more, for hotels located along the Santa Barbara South Coast of California
3) This project also includes developing productive relationships with hospitality suppliers that provide goods and services for visiting groups across the destination
CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES, AS ALIGNED WITH THE VSB STRATEGIC IMPERATIVES:
STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE 1: Position and amplify the Santa Barbara brand to target markets
· Generate awareness and interest in the Santa Barbara South Coast as a meetings destination
· Build and maintain relationships with third party referral firms, meeting planners and industry partners including local community hospitality partners
· Uncover new business opportunities for Santa Barbara
· Coordinate opportunities for local hotels to exhibit at client events and trade shows
· Demonstrate detailed product knowledge with Santa Barbara maintain a positive public image while representing the Santa Barbara brand
STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE 2: Grow overnight demand for the destination
· Solicit group sales in the corporate, association and incentives market in Southern California, Southwest, Texas and Southeast territory
· Produce group business leads for the hospitality industry and maintains appropriate follow-up contact with clients
· Manage arrangements and escort clients, third parties and meeting planners during site local inspections and familiarization tours that showcase hotels, restaurants, attractions and services
· Produce sales reports, including monthly and quarterly activity summaries
STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE 3: Champion positive visitor experiences
No Major Duties Under This Area
STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE 4: Strengthen the organization’s effectiveness
· Collaborate with the Director of Sales to identify and develop strategies to address the assigned sales territory
· Add value to VSB members by referring FAM and site visit clients to their goods and services
· Collaborate and develop relationships with competitors to learn trends, issues and best practices
· Exceed established production goals related to proactive client contacts, qualified leads generated and contracted room nights during the contract term
This contract will not include:
- Sales advertising
- Content development
- Website development
- Graphic design
- Public relations or media relations
As an independent contractor the following special conditions apply:
· The contractor exclusively will select the manner and means of completing the project
· The contractor will provide all necessary and appropriate materials, equipment, computer hardware/software and communication services necessary to complete the project
· The contractor will operate a proprietary, distinct business and may have other customers for which contractor regularly engages in work similar to the project, provided that such work does not prevent contractor from accomplishing the project by deadline or involve contractor’s use or disclosure of VSB’s proprietary information
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor of Arts degree in business, marketing or related field (or equivalent in directly related work experience) preferred
· Previous sales experience in a full-service hotel, convention center, destination marketing organization or similar company
· Strong organization and time management skills
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects successfully
· High attention to detail, accurate documentation and follow-through
· Ability to be tactful and courteous and display appropriate public image when representing Visit Santa Barbara
· Knowledge and familiarity with Santa Barbara as a destination
· Strong communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and customer service skills
· Competent with Microsoft Office suite and current technology
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Must have a valid passport, driver’s license and insurance
· Must be free to travel as needed to carry out the organization’s goals
· Must have use of vehicle for business
· Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and transport equipment and materials for use in sales programs
· To the extent possible, contractor will perform the project withing contractor’s own physical office or other workspace.
