Description
As an Analytics Engineer, you will be an key member of the Data Engineering team building the foundation to scale analytics across our business functions and impart the best data practices for a rapidly maturing organization. You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders in Analytics and other business teams to understand their pain points and take the lead in proposing viable, future-proof solutions to resolve them. You will also autonomously lead your own projects to elevate reporting and analysis at Ascent and help steer business teams to make data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities
- Understand the data needs of Analytics team and its stakeholders: Product, Marketing, Technology, Treasury, etc. and translate that scope into technical requirements
- Ensure we’re collecting and processing the right data to drive decision making
- Support the development of data products and tools to facilitate self-service and enable analytics to scale across the company
- Build and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines, monitoring and optimizing data pipeline performance
- Design and build new ELT-based data models using SQL and dbt, implementing efficient testing and validation to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data
- Be a thought leader in refining the ways we are developing, testing, deploying, organizing and documenting dbt models and our data warehouse.
- Expand our data warehouse with clean data ready for analysis
- Apply software engineering best practices like version control, naming conventions, and continuous integration to the analytics code base
- Work with cloud native technologies AWS Redshift and Glue, Fivetran, dbt, Tableau, and replace legacy technology in SQL Server
- Empower our business analysts and data science teams to discover new insights and possibilities, by helping leverage machine learning and AI models and tools.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as an Analytics Engineer or in a similar role (Data Analyst or Data Engineer) with proven track record in shipping canonical datasets
- Empathy towards business stakeholders and understanding their day-to-day pain points
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation, comfortable in at least one functional/OOP language such as Python or R
- Proficiency in data warehousing concepts and experience with data platforms like Google Big Query, Amazon Redshift, or Snowflake.
- Ability to create insightful visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker to communicate data findings effectively.
- Strong knowledge of data normalization and dimensional modeling techniques
- Experienced in writing unit tests to validate data products and version control
- Excellent communication skills and can present data-driven narratives in both verbal and written form
