The Lead Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) assists the Manager Data Oncology Services with leading and performing operations of the Oncology Data Services Department to meet the requirements of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), Joint Commission, state regulations, and Cooper University Health Care. In addition to performing the same functions as others in the registry team, this individual supports the registry operationally by ensuring data submissions and imports, audits, casefinding resource updates, distribution of team works lists, and other required deadlines are consistently met. This individual also participates in the onboarding, training and development of new team members and team workflow oversight.
Cancer Registrar Responsibilities
1.1 Completes abstracting, casefinding, follow up, and other tasks as assigned.
1.2 Achieves department coding accuracy benchmark and task productivity rates.
1.3 Support Cancer Registry Assistant with Multidisciplinary Cancer Case Conference as needed.
1.4 Participates in ongoing cancer registry and related educational activities.
1.5 Maintain credential of ODS (Oncology Data Specialist).
Registry Operations Responsibilities
2.1 Performs exporting and importing from cancer registry database and correcting edits as needed.
2.2 Completes NJSCR data submission, audits, follow up report and other requests.
2.3 Satisfy internal and external data requests as assigned.
2.4 Analyzes accuracy of ICD10 index list required for casefinding; partners with IT Business Intelligence to make updates.
2.5 Perform payroll functions as needed
Leadership Responsibilities
3.1 Participate or lead new hire onboarding and training.
3.2 Oversees electronic pathology report casefinding functions, quality results and training.
3.3 Generate and distribute suspense case reports and task lists to team members.
3.4 Perform peer quality review for abstracting accuracy. Distributed cases for peer-to-peer reviews.
3.5 Serve as point person for communication and collection of team documents.
3.6 Monitor workflow and collaborate with manager to make suggestions for workflow adjustments.
3.7 Prepare agenda and host team huddles and meetings as needed.
