Trillium Publishing is seeking a senior editor with experience in K-8 ELA and literacy to join our editorial team. Our senior editors bring their experience directly to the materials we create, rolling up their sleeves and diving in, leveraging their experience to craft solutions that meet client needs.
The right candidate will have the ability to think flexibly, understand thoughtfully, and adapt nimbly to the needs of our various clients, and then efficiently produce high-quality content. While we are looking for someone with a strong ELA and literacy background, all of our editors have the opportunity to work on a variety of subject areas, grade levels, and component types.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as project lead and client liaison and ensure deliverables meet client requirements.
- Create program prototypes and plan program content in collaboration with clients and other team members.
- Write program and component editorial guidelines and manage program scope throughout development process. Communicate changes of style and editorial guidelines to inhouse and freelance writers and editors as appropriate.
- Identify and select appropriate freelance writers, create authoring assignments, and act as primary point of contact for freelance writers.
- Ensure quality, originality, rigor, and scope and adherence to component content guidelines (skills, standards, instructional strategies, etc.) of editorial content (i.e., manuscript, layouts) created by self or others.
- Rewrite or modify editorial content to embody component content guidelines and quality standards.
- Author editorial content that meets component content guidelines.
- Actively review and respond to the work of inhouse and freelance writers, editors, copyeditors, providing feedback and answering questions, to maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Utilize creative problem-solving when developing materials that both meet guidelines and are innovative, engaging, and authentic.
- Make instructional design and curriculum design decisions for assigned projects based on educational best practices.
- Track and manage deliverables to meet project schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with team members to establish and maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Provide recommendations related to resourcing decisions, process improvements, and opportunities for department- and company-wide professional development.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the field of education and in educational publishing.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of experience editing in a publishing organization or in an education-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s degree in education, English, or related field preferred
- Extensive experience as an editor of educational materials, including authoring instruction
- Familiarity with educational settings, either through professional or volunteer work
- Ability to synthesize a variety of inputs and create and communicate requirements effectively
- Ability to work effectively and flexibly given changing project requirements
- Ability to navigate language structures to review texts from a variety of content areas and levels of complexity
- Ability to be self-directed and work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team
- Expert knowledge of the structure and content of the English language
- Strong collaboration and creative problem-solving skills; confidence to rely on expert knowledge
- Effective customer service skills
- Professional communication and listening skills
- Strong organization and time management skills; flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities
- Meticulous and detail-oriented
