Summary: Responsible for dispatching ocean container, van and intermodal orders in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner using our computerized system, and in accordance with customer expectations and Government laws and regulations. Keeps drivers and fleet managers apprised of pertinent issues. Communicates with steamship lines, customer service and all stakeholders. Trains to back up fleet manager for absences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan and execute dispatch of orders to meet customer requirements using our computerized dispatch system
· Anticipates what will be needed and prepares himself and driver for best results
· Seeks safe ways to maximize driver productivity and company profitability
· Dispatches drivers by text, phone or in person
· Updates computer of load notes and problems and solutions
· Maintains load status in real time
· Uses Internet solutions and interfacing with the port, steamship lines, and other intermodal stakeholders
· Freight planning, pre-dispatches, keeps trucks moving without extra cost
· Minimize expense and inefficiencies such as dry runs, per diem
· Handle minor problems for drivers
· Keeps current with steamship, port, rail and other intermodal facilities’ locations and requirements
· Routes appropriate issues to Management
· After hours contact for drivers, at times
· Responsible for opening and/or closing office and terminal daily
Back-up and occasional duties:

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from two-year College or university; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, and/or public groups. Ability to communicate effectively.
Mathematical Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
