PVJOBS (Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services)was created in 1998 as a nonprofit California corporation to provide job opportunities for underserved individuals. Its mission is to place at-risk youth, adults, veterans and students in career-track employment in the construction and other industries. We advocate and serve as a national model for job programs which assist this target population.
General Definition
The Jobs Coordinator/Construction Trainer, under the supervision of the Jobs Coordinator Services Program Manager, will assist with the implementation of Jobs Coordinator services, and contractor compliance for construction projects.
The Construction Trainer (CT) under the supervision of the Program Director will provide hands-on construction training to support the development of construction skills for participants ages 16+. The objective of the training is to prepare participants to build a single unit of affordable housing.
1. Jobs Coordinator/Construction Trainer will report to the Jobs Coordinator Services Program Manager and will visit construction site/s to conduct public speaking presentations to educate contractors and employees about project specific hiring goals.
Jobs Coordinator/Construction Trainer will conduct Core Worker and New Hire interviews/certifications of individuals for residential and disadvantaged criteria.
2. Perform follow-up with workers to obtain needed documentation for compliance certification to verify criteria.
3. Log and track all workers interviewed and file interviews/certifications in hardcopy and electronically.
4. Other duties as assigned.
5. Teach participants construction skills that include: demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, and finish carpentry.
6. Teach Carpenters Career Connections curricula and other construction trades related curricula- using prescribed materials.
7. Oversee the determination of labor and resource requirements for projects.
8. Set standards and model appropriate behavior and methods of addressing problems at the construction site.
9. Ensure worksite safety, modeling and reinforcing proper constructions techniques and all trained safety procedures including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
10. Conduct the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction.
11. Complete daily construction report as requested.
12. Maintain inventory of all tools and equipment used on the job daily.
13. Participate as part of the site team in program planning, keeping management informed of the progress, problems and needs of the participants and building projects.
14. Support the academic and leadership goals of the program by incorporating both into building site activities whenever possible.
15. .Assist in personal and vocational counseling and the development of leadership skills in conjunction with other staff.
16. Provide supervision in the academic or leadership components of the program when needed.
17. Coordinate with academic and leadership staff to teach daily living skills, solve site logistical issues and consistently enforce site policies.
18. Assist in developing and participate in community service projects.
19. Attend case management meetings and provide observations of participant’s strengths and weaknesses.
20. Attend all meetings & trainings as required.

Skills/Qualifications
·
· Minimum of three years professional journey level construction experience working with all elements of housing construction required.
· Knowledge of methods and skills in the use of carpentry equipment, materials, and tools, and common hazards and necessary safety precautions required.
· Skilled at reading and interpreting instructions, diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
· Ability to relate to, lead, and instruct populations of adults who have become disconnected from traditional education and career preparation.
· Passion for working with young people of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds to reorient their lives, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in their community.
· OSHA 30 certified with first aid and CPR training desired.
· Commitment to the mission of PVJOBS
· Knowledge of construction industry and all phases of new construction strongly desired but not required
· Good interpersonal Communication Skills - Good attitude and NRF certifications
· Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite; Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point
· Excellent organizational skills. (Both electronically and paper)
· Able to work in fast-paced environment and be flexible/adapt to change quickly
· Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects/processes simultaneously
· Valid CA Identification/Driver’s License
