JOB SUMMARY
The Project Manager is responsible for managing the planning, execution, and delivery of projects, ensuring they align with business needs and risk assessments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, resources, and budgets.
- Develop, maintain, and effectively execute project plans throughout the life of assigned projects, defining activities, sequence, dependencies, work effort, duration, and associated resource requirements on the project management system.
- Coordinate project activities, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Manage project planning, estimation, scheduling, and execution; track issue management, risk management, change management, financial management, closure, and status reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with or lead technology initiatives through all phases of the project management lifecycle, including developing project charters, project plans, and schedules, and identifying and monitoring issues and risks.
Stakeholder and Resource Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and managing expectations.
- Work with project sponsors, vendors, developers, and other stakeholders on both the business and technical teams to manage project requirements and facilitate solution implementation.
- Collaborate with Architecture Teams to develop workforce allocation plans.
- Plan and manage internal and external project communications, ensuring effective exchange of project information, status, issues, risks, and deliverables.
- Facilitate the translation of technical requirements to align with business objectives.
Standards and Methodologies:
- Implement and uphold company-wide project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Ensure consistent project execution in alignment with NYSERNet PMO guidelines and quality standards.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor project compliance and create summary reports for Project Management Office.
- Manage project status reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Confirm all project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Develop, execute, and govern PMO strategies, operational processes, tools, policies, and metrics.
- Apply analytical processes to the planning, design, and implementation of complex network and IT information systems.
Risk and Issue Management:
- Perform risk management to minimize project risks and develop contingency plans.
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work across NYSERNet with individuals and teams at all levels, including networking, information technology, and administrative units, to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and the sharing of ideas and best practices across departments.
- Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement and innovation through cross-functional collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in business or a related field not required, but preferred. PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
- 3+ years proven experience as project manager, preferably in a technology or networking environment.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
- Proven track record of developing and executing project plans.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, resource and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently while also working cohesively as part of a team.
- Ability to travel 1-2 times per month to the NYSERNet office, company or community events.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Remote position with flexible work hours.
- Occasional evening, night and weekend work needed.
- Residence required in New York State or the tri-state area for agile travel.
