The American Health Law Association (AHLA) is the leading organization dedicated to educating and connecting the health law community. We are seeking an Education Manager with superior writing skills and experience with legal documents and publishing to join AHLA’s Education department. You will manage a variety of distance learning, editorial, publishing, and other tasks supporting the development and publication of content. You will have the opportunity to work on webinars, articles, and podcasts, and more. You will be working with partner organizations, volunteer authors/speakers, and collaborating with other team members.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and executes on the planning and hosting of webinars or other virtual learning and virtual conference offerings, including managing the webinars on the zoom platform, identifying topics, identifying, securing, and building relationships with volunteer presenters and their organizations.
- Performs editorial, production, and administrative tasks related to treatise publications, which may include legal copy-editing, formatting, or proofreading in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat, reviewing call outs and exhibits, and taking other steps to prepare manuscripts for publication.
- Manages treatise-related communications with author-members, contractors, and editors, as needed throughout the editorial and production process.
- Assists with editorial activities related to member publications, including acquisition of publications and presentation materials, working with volunteer authors, editing articles according to guidelines in a deadline-driven environment, and activities related to preparing materials for publishing to the AHLA website, in email, or in Health Law Connections magazine.
- Works as part of a team to ensure timely recording, tracking, and release of podcasts.
- Assists with the production of on-demand offerings, requiring the use of multiple internal and external systems and coordination across departments and with outside vendors.
- Works with members, volunteers, and customers on webinar or editorial-related queries or issues, following through to resolution.
- Works with authors/speakers/contributors as necessary to ensure accurate biographical information and to support volunteer recognition, collecting, entering, and correcting data as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Five or more years of professional experience working with law-related materials and audiences. Additional experience with editing legal publications and management of author/presenter volunteer contributors and contractors strongly preferred.
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies or new software tools.
- Experience with process improvement and workflow management preferred.
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Office, with expertise in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required.
- Knowledge of, or familiarity with, HTML (or other mark-up languages) and Adobe Professional, and/or other publishing formats and tools preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to write effectively and clearly for various audiences, including editing and strong proofreading skills.
- Strong oral communication skills, customer service, and team/cooperative skills for continual interaction with staff and contact with authors, speakers, and members.
- Ability to adjust work pace and priorities as appropriate to the task and deadline.
- Independent and effective time management with excellent organizational skills and ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse and teleworking team and with other association employees to meet shared goals.
