Under general supervision, incumbent will perform research support, technical, and supervisory duties in a laboratory. Specifically, the incumbent will supervise all undergraduate lab assistants for the UCLA Dieting, Stress, and Health Laboratory. The incumbent will also help oversee an independent project and coordinate large-scale studies in the lab. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and managing undergraduate research assistants and handling all aspects of research studies including subject recruitment, screening and retention of research participants, data entry, data collection, and assisting regulatory aspects of the study protocol.
Required:
- Experience in recruitment and training assistance of undergraduate research assistants
- Experience working in lab research settings.
- Prior laboratory operations management experience.
- Experience with teaching or training.
- Experience in data collection, including interviewing, with similar populations.
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely fashion in spite of changes in workload, changes in assignments, pressure of deadlines, competing assignments and heavy workloads. Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Able to communicate effectively with research participants and to conduct data collection using clear and standardized procedures.
- Excellent organization and communication skills that convey sensitivity, empathy, and respect for study participants and other lab personnel.
- Ability to work as part of a team and ability to collaborate with other lab personnel.
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, email systems, spreadsheets, and databases. Knowledge of PC and Mac computers and applications.
- Skilled in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
- Ability to use standard lab equipment, including telephones, copy machines, and scanners.
Preferred:
- Experience working with participants.
- Experience with the Trier Social Stress Test.
- Experience with saliva sampling.
- Skill in using SPSS to manage databases and perform analyses.
- Interest in and familiarity with health psychology.
- Familiarity with the forms and submission procedures to obtain research approvals from the UCLA Institutional Review Board and Office for the Protection of Research Subjects.
- Working knowledge of UCLA procedures and policies for any of the following: human subjects research, administration of research (IRB).
