Family Office is a design studio based in Lower Manhattan led by Diego Segura. Before starting my own firm, I was a designer at the famed brand firm, Collins, and went on to work in tech and raise venture money for my own company before returning to the world of design.
Now, I run Family Office designing brand identities, user interfaces, and articulate company-changing strategy.
The firm has practically no internet presence at the moment. Our only press mention has been from Emily Sundberg's Feed Me Substack, which makes me incredibly proud. The Role
I'm looking for a brand designer who needs specific growth to become a world class designer. Designers who have worked for me have gone on to work at Apple, Koto, Porto Rocha, Ogilvy, and highly successful independent freelance careers.
I offer you both a salary and, hopefully more importantly, a massive growth step in your career. By the time you've spent even a year working with me, you'll have countless new ground-up brand identity projects in your portfolio, and you'll have been present at every juncture you'd like to be present at. (That is to say: do you want to learn how to be client facing? I'd love for you to be.)
You'll present alongside me. You'll learn about business development (i.e., how do new projects get structured and signed). You'll likely be one of the first designers to work at our new office. The best designers, I believe, are unique thinkers. Every studio says they're rooted in “strategy”, but that usually means writing generic mission statements — “Make the world better.” — and generic values — “Be collaborative.” You're a great fit for Family Office if you hate templatized design. You'll be an even better fit if you have a portfolio of work that breaks the norms of today's trends in design.
About
The firm was founded by Diego Segura. Previously, he co-founded a company called Nation. Backed by Placeholder, M13, Slow, Circle, and Tribe Ventures, the company went on to build a handful of software products, in the end resulting in Vellum before the team disbanded.
He began his career as the youngest designer ever hired at the prolific brand transformation agency, COLLINS. He is the author of a 2018 book, The Dropout Manifesto. The best way to learn about Family Office and Diego is to read his website, and his periodic updates on the firm.
Location
We currently work from Index Space in Chinatown, NYC, where we rent a handful of desks and pay for memberships for other collaborators. Though we're open to remote collaborators, we'd much prefer someone who enjoys being in the office and collaborating live.
