A Sr. Network Engineer is expected to work in both pre-sales and post-sales engineering roles at Omada Technologies, seeing a project through from an initial design to implementation and documentation. As such, the Sr. Network Engineer will have not only good technical skills, but also will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills. She/He/They will be expected to work well as part of a team to interact appropriately with the Sales and Operations team but must also work exceptionally well on Her/His/Their own during the course of an implementation/project.
The Sr. Network Engineer has a good foundational understanding of data networking and can learn new products and/or operating systems without much outside help or training. She/He/They will be able to write Statements of Work and communicate effectively over email, web meetings, phone, and in-person with other team members, as well as customers and technology partners. She/He/They will also be expected to continue their training/education continuously and maintain industry and product-specific certifications.
Sr. Network Engineers at Omada Technologies will spend their time approximately as follows:
- 50% on post-sales implementations/projects
- 20% on pre-sales efforts in conjunction with the sales team
- 15% will be continuing education/training/certifications
- 10% on personal areas of interest
- 5% on other administrative tasks
Required skills or knowledge in addition to those listed above:
- Good understanding of the OSI network model
- Understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 switching, and the differences between the two
- Understanding of static routing and dynamic routing (OSPF and BGP)
- Foundational knowledge of network security principles
- In-depth knowledge of wireless technologies and configuration
- Thorough understanding of network authentication mechanisms (802.1X, MAC, Captive Portal)
- 6+ years of experience and/or education in the field
Additional skills or knowledge that are helpful, but not required:
- Understanding of additional dynamic routing protocols such as MPLS and IS-IS
- Scripting knowledge, particularly with Python
- Understanding of APIs and how to interact with them
- Knowledge of specific products, including Aruba (a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company), Juniper Networks, Arista Networks, Palo Alto Networks, Splunk, Infoblox, Crowdstrike, Amazon AWS
