Sr. Technical Writer
The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity seeks a talented and experienced
Sr. Technical Writer to serve as the primary writer for the Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity. This position requires a strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and engaging content that resonates with both technical and non-technical audiences and captures the Director’s tone and voice.
The Senior Technical Writer takes initiative on assignments, demonstrates effective organizational and communication skills, and exercises discretion and sound editorial judgment. The Senior Technical Writer reports to the Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity and may also work with communications personnel across Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins University and other key stakeholders. The Senior Technical Writer collaborates on various communication materials, including research reports, internal communications, leadership blogs, press releases, executive communications, presentations, formal speeches, statements of opinion, and social media. Their primary focus is to articulate the research and ideas of the Director effectively and with clarity.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality content to support the Director's communications, including speeches, presentations, research reports and articles, correspondence, op-eds, video scripts, and social media posts, ensuring alignment with the intended audience.
- Independently conceptualize content, conduct research, interview subject matter experts, and fact-check communications across various platforms.
- Develop and implement communications that are informative, accurate, and timely.
- Adhere to institutional brand and key messages, maintaining consistency in style, tone, and accuracy across all materials.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align messaging with institutional mission, strategic plan, and initiatives.
- Review and edit manuscripts and drafts for grammatical accuracy and to reflect the voice and priorities of the Director.
- Monitor key issues and trends in health equity to incorporate relevant topics into content development.

- Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in sensitive matters.
- Knowledgeable about high-level external and internal communication strategies and tactics, enabling effective engagement with stakeholders across various channels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related Technical/Scientific field.
- Must possess in-depth subject matter knowledge.
- One-year related experience.
- Writing samples may be requested during the selection process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in academic medicine, public health, healthcare, science, journalism or corporate communications.

Starting Salary Range: $32.25 - $56.46 HRLY ($25,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
