We're all about creating a platform to share the voices and stories that deserve to be heard, and we’re looking for a passionate and creative Managing Editor to join our team and help us do just that.
Job Description:
As the Managing Editor of Quotable Magazine, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to inspire and empower women. You’ll take the lead in crafting each print issue (while working closely with our founder/editor-in-chief), curating content that speaks directly to our audience of dynamic female entrepreneurs and leaders. We recieve an overwhelming number of pitches from PR teams and individuals who want to be featured in the magazine, and also take pride in proactively uncovering potential features ourselves, so a large portion of this role is determining which stories to cover, assigning and managing interviews to our writers, and communicating with PR teams about inclusion of articles. We publish original interviews and articles crafted through our internal team, as well as accepting contributed articles submitted from the wider community, and this role will determine and manage the content that makes it into each print issue.
This part-time role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, loves storytelling, and is excited about championing women’s voices. This is a very part time role, but we're really looking for someone who is committed to staying on long term and working on several issues in a row with us, with the potential and ambition to grow with the role as the magazine grows. This role can be fully remote for the right person, but if you're in the Boston area and can work out of the Quotable office a few days per quarter that would be a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial Vision: Work with our editorial team to develop the theme and content for each quarterly issue, ensuring it resonates with our mission to inspire and uplift women.
- Content Creation: Assign and manage articles, interviews, and features. Provide guidance and feedback to writers, and ensure all content is engaging, authentic, and aligned with our brand.
- Team Leadership: Manage a small team of contributing writers and designers. Foster a fun, collaborative atmosphere where everyone feels inspired to do their best work. Lead the planning meeting with our contributor network once per quarter.
- Production Oversight: Collaborate with our art director to bring the magazine to life, ensuring that each page is as visually stunning as it is content-rich.
- Final Edits: Proofread and polish the magazine before it heads to print, maintaining our high standards for quality and consistency.
- Project Management: Keep the production schedule on track, ensuring that every issue is delivered on time and within budget.
- Collaborative Spirit: Be the go-to person who bridges the gap between editorial, design, and production teams, ensuring a smooth and joyful creative process.
Qualifications:
- Passion for storytelling and a strong alignment with our mission to empower and inspire women.
- 2-5 years of experience in editorial roles, with a preference for print magazine publishing.
- Proven ability to manage creative teams and oversee the production of print publications.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a lighthearted, engaging tone.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects with grace.
- Familiarity with magazine layout and design processes.
Compensation:
We offer a flat per-issue fee, based on experience. Each issue is estimated at around 10-20 hours of work, on a quarterly basis but with most of the heavy lifting taking place in the month before printing.
Additionally, we are searching for a part time online editor for 5-10 hours per month, paid on an hourly basis, and if that is a role you are interested in as well there is potential for them to be combined.
