Position: Director of Accounting for a Commercial Real Estate Owner
Location: Plantation, FL (in office daily)
Will manage at least 20 people, must have experience managing a large team and must be a roll up your sleeve’s person, not just a macro manager
Position Overview:
The Director of Accounting reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing all property and project management accounting activities of our client’s corporate financials. A qualified candidate will assume direct responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of financial information provided to internaland external parties.This hire will be a key member of the senior management team and will play an integral role in planning and implementing the strategic growth of the company. The candidate will lead, engage and inspire a growing team of financial professionals who are passionate about our industry and aspire to grow their careers. Additionally, this individual will lead the effort to ensure the proper systems, controlsand infrastructure are in place to supportthe growth of the organization. This position will improveinternal reporting processes in order to provide more timely and useful financial information for key decision makers.
Qualifications:
The successful hire will have at least 10 years of experience and combine strong accounting and reporting skills, with a thorough understanding of commercial real estate. Ideally this person will have a CPA designation and have started their accounting career in publicaccounting before gainingexperience on the private side. This individual must be a strong leader and should be comfortable in a professional yet entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, and therefore must be comfortable working independently as a hands-on, individual contributor.
Collaborate with Executive Leadership team, develop the strategy to ensure that the organization has the financial resources needed to achieveits current and future goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk.
Develop and ensurethe implementation of financial standardoperating procedures and controls for the Company.
Ensure all accounting and cash management processes are consistent with best-in-class industry practices.
Develop and overseeannual budgets for the Management Company.
Help to prepareand modify all financial statements and budgets for the corporate platform.
Assist in propertyonboarding, property dispositions and property financingprocesses as necessary.
Oversight of Lease Administration.
Help to define the financialstrategy, manage financialcapital and communicate capital requirements/implications of properties.
Conduct meaningful proactiveanalysis to improvemonthly reporting.
Ensure compliance with all local,state, and federaltax filings and reporting requirements.
Coordinate with outside CPA’s and other consultants to maximize tax efficiency in the corporate structure and on all transactions.
Evaluate existing financial systems and procure and manage/integrate new financial systems and upgrades required.
Forecast long-term cash needs; provideproactive day-to-day cash management.
Additional Qualifications:
A “player-coach” that will take a proactive approach to anticipating and solving problems.
Well versed in financial application systems, as well as spreadsheet, database and modeling applications including Yardi accounting software.
Strong project management skills, results-driven, adaptablewith ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience with a wide range of asset classes including industrial, multi-family, hospitality, and retail.
Construction management and development management accounting and budgeting.
Ability to think strategically while also havinga hand on ground level property accounting.
Prioritize flexibly and respond quicklyto matters affecting the business and that are critical to management.
Excellent communication skills both writtenand oral, and able to interface effectively both internally and externally.
Early public accounting experience combined with more recent experience within an owner / operator or property management firm is strongly preferred.
Familiar with PropertyAcquisition.
Manage vendor relationships including platform-wide third-party property accounting engagement.
