This position reports to the UIT Project Management Office and joins a team of technical project managers assembled into multidisciplinary teams to complete a broad range of technology projects, whose completion is, in turn, critical to the entire University. Working very closely with the ITI Infrastructure teams, the project manager is responsible for managing large and complex new building and renovation projects supporting LBRE, R&DE, and leveraging project management best practices to drive continuous improvement and ensure consistent high-quality outcomes. The project manager is expected to weigh the interests of multiple stakeholders, act with the highest professionalism and exercise independent judgment and decision-making. The position is typically 80% time towards project leadership and 20% technical contributor, managing multiple large projects simultaneously.
The ideal candidate has a successful track record of delivering enterprise-wide IT infrastructure projects such as VoIP/telephony, networking (wired and wireless network and firewall), Audio Visual (A/V), mobile networking, and cabling infrastructure for new building and building renovations. It is important that the project manager is a good communicator, detail oriented, provides good meeting notes, has the ability to lead and guide the team and can easily assimilate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
The TPM would be expected to collaborate with LBRE, the workstream project manager (AV, Networking, Security, Voice and Video etc.) from each UIT service group and the workstream project manager from UIT Card Services, and will be responsible to link all the project plans under the program and keep the IT deliverables for the renovation projects on time, budget and schedule.
Desired experience includes a proven track record of motivating a diverse team, partnering effectively with sponsors and decision-makers, and identifying and efficiently managing project risks, while successfully managing projects to timely delivery and within budgetary expectations. The position typically focused 80% on project leadership and 20% on technical contribution. The project manager is expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Core Duties*
Project Management
- Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling, and closing.
- Independently lead and direct large building renovation projects that require high levels of functional and technical integration across multiple disciplines. This requires strong project management and communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Originate project charter defining/shaping the project’s scope, goals/objectives, solution approach, system integration and impact to other systems, project team organization, roles/responsibilities, risks and assumption, project financials.
- Develop an action plan and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete the project.
- Create and implement project plans and work breakdown structures aligned with business and technical plans and directions; revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation and consensus.
- Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
- Evaluate and assess metrics and project effectiveness, assess and proactively monitor and control risks, progress and trends impacting successful project delivery.
- Assist with PPM/PMO process improvement initiatives as defined in the PMO roadmap.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Previous experience managing large IT infrastructure projects and building renovation projects.

- Understanding of basic telecom/VoIP mechanics (,e.g. VoIP, PBX, Call Manager, Contact Center, paging, TDM), Audio/Visual, Card Key and basic knowledge of service delivery and operation strongly desired.
- Experience with managing IT technical infrastructure components for new and/or updated buildings.
- Experience with developing and managing IT and construction budgets.
- Proven experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies strongly desired.
- Knowledge of project management tools and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining complex and integrated project plans.
- Proven experience in people, change, risk, and conflict management is strongly desired.
- Proven ability to build relationships and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve results in a consensus driven environment strongly desired.
- Ability to lead and direct a team of internal and external technical and business staff and align technical needs with business goals strongly desired.

Certifications and Licenses
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certified completion of a Project Management Certificate program, or certification in process.
Physical Requirements*
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry /push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand.
- Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.
