Director of Marketing and Major Gifts: Northeast News Kansas City

Founded in 1932, the Northeast News is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), multimedia journalism publication and newspaper providing coverage to the Northeast region of Kansas City, Mo.
Our newsroom is composed of award-winning, dedicated journalists on a mission of bringing a voice to the underserved within the Northeast community and beyond.
The Northeast News offers free, accessible information in English and Spanish across various platforms, which include a weekly print edition, user-friendly website, weekly podcasts available via Spotify and Apple Music and social media including — but not limited to — Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok and X.
Preferred Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in strategic communication, business, marketing or a related field
- At least one (1) year of full-time experience working within marketing relations
- Experience with non-profit journalism or non-profit organizations
- Proficient in analytical components including SEO and audience engagement
- Knowledgeable with analytical tools such as Google Trends, Parse.ly or related sites
- Capable of selling print advertisements and sponsored-content partnership packages
- Social media expertise including knowledge on audience strategy and reach
- Have experience OR be willing to gain experience writing grants
Job Responsibilities
- Consistently communicate with existing sponsors, satisfying their needs and goals.
- Contact and build relationships between existing publication sponsors.
- Actively search and develop relationships with new advertising partners.
- Develop an understanding of advertising prices and packages to share with sponsors.
- Create reports of sponsorship impact.
- Closely monitor SEO and analytical elements among the website and social media platforms, respectively.
- Generate weekly analytical reports — working to actively increase audience reach.
- Continually pursue and apply for Grant opportunities to increase publication funding.
- Work closely with the Managing Editor and Art Director to ensure advertisements infiltrate allocated print editions.
- Routinely post content on social media platforms designed by the Art Director.
- Producing bi-weekly marketing campaigns alongside local businesses and organizations to increase brand awareness among social platforms (reels, tik-toks, giveaways, etc).
This is a flexible, Hybrid, part-time position with potential of extending to full-time employment.
Salary for this position is commensurate based on experience, starting between $18.00 to $20.00 per hour with a performance review after 90 days of continuous employment.
