Position Summary
The Data Architect is responsible for designing/modeling the database, managing ETL/API processes, updating, auditing and monitoring the performance of the databases. The Data Architect / ETL Developer is also responsible for setting data governance, data retention and data loss back-up policies for the databases.
Essential Functions
Data Architecture / Database Design:
- Define the data architecture framework, standards, and principles, including modeling, metadata, security, reference data and master data.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data design and architecture for operational and analytics databases.
- Shape Data Strategy: Lead the design and implementation of our data architecture, ensuring it's robust, scalable, and aligned with our business goals.
- Model and Design Databases: Create and maintain data models that meet business needs, supporting everything from data analytics to operational databases.
- Develop and execute the data warehouse and reporting platform strategy in alignment with the organization's goals and objectives
- Defining data flows, i.e., which parts of the organization generate data, which require data to function, how data flows are managed, and how data changes in transition
Data Pipelines
- Responsible for designing and implementing ETL pipelines that extract data from multiple sources, transform it, and load it into a data warehouse.
Collaboration And Communication
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, operations, and IT
- Build and maintain a collaborative environment by emphasizing teamwork with team and colleagues
- Train, assist and mentor department staff/team
Technology And Tools
- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in data warehousing and ETL tools
- Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to enhance data capabilities (e.g., AI)
Performance Measurement
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the performance of the databases
- Continuously improve processes and methodologies based on feedback and performance metrics
Team/Employee Management Essential Functions
- Foster innovation and automation in data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve operational efficiency and business growth
- Coordinate the schedule for coverage of the department
- Monitor and prioritize department workflow to ensure accurate, thorough and timely completion of tasks
- Assign tasks to team members, as needed
- Identify needs and conduct trainings for new and existing team members to increase efficiencies and productivity
- Create and distribute department communications as needed
Other Essential Functions
- Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in managing Relational Database teams (RDB/RDBM), SSMS/SQL, OBIEE or Snowflake
- Proficiency in building data pipelines and, building and maintaining ETL processes
- Deep understanding of data architecture principles, data modeling techniques, and database technologies and database security practices
- Experience in designing database logical and physical schema design including logical and physical database schema designs for large scale, highly available and mission-critical application systems.
- Proficiency with Iterative and Agile Development methodologies
- Experience with data lake, data Lakehouse and other modern analytics solutions
- Knowledge of LLM / Large Language Model
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Experience in insights and reporting will be key.

Education & Licensing
- Bachelor’s in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect with emphasis in data modelling, data flow design, and data warehousing required
- 8+ years of experience managing Relational Databases (RDB/RDBM), SSMS/SQL, OBIEE or Snowflake required
- 8+ years of Experience in designing database logical and physical schema design including logical and physical database schema designs for large scale, highly available and mission-critical application systems. required
- 5+ years of experience in building data pipelines and ETL programming required
- 5+ years of experience with Iterative and Agile Development methodologies required
Physical Work Requirements
Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
