The Project Manager has the ultimate responsibility for Yokogawa business at the project level. This includes the responsibility for customer satisfaction, improving margin, and for overall management of projects from initial conception through project completion. Assures projects are completed in a timely, efficient, and profitable manner while maintaining customer satisfaction by scope definition, planning, monitoring, and controlling all project resources and relationships utilizing Yokogawa ISO procedural requirements.
DUTIES/RESULTS:
- Manages all project planning; i.e., works with customer and project team to clearly define scope and ensure clarity of project technical schedule and budget requirements, performs billing and cash flow planning, manpower loading models; implementation plan with time lines, ensures complete understanding of customer needs by key personnel, shares information with team members; responsible for developing and maintaining required project records. Maintains consistent updates of project plan, budget and schedule.
- Manages cost reduction on projects while improving customer satisfaction.
- Manages project quality by ensuring YCA quality plan is implemented throughout the project.
- Implements/utilizes tools provided to aid in managing/directing project activities.
- Responsible for contract growth through change order management and development of customer relationships to broaden/expand scope of work based on customer's needs or expectations.
- Maintains awareness of project progress; i.e., addresses any problems on a timely basis; conducts project progress meetings; attends selected design reviews and code walk-throughs; monitors progress vs. plan; provides status reports to manager and customer; ensures change orders are properly quoted, negotiated and executed; assures execution is in accordance with unit procedures and proper methodologies.
- Responsible for contract compliance, including all terms/conditions scope, financial, insurance, etc. Responsible for improving cash position of each contract within terms/cancellations of contract.
- Develops and oversees project completion and site mobilization plan; i.e. ensures integrity of final system; conformance to contractual requirements, system acceptance by customer, delivery of specified system documentation and services; controls expenses and defines completion plans for personnel; ensures orderly transfer of project to Customer Service for long-term support; responsible for archiving project records, documentation, system tapes, and transfer of customer-accepted system with required documentation for warranty services and maintenance.
- Serves as YCA's primary contact and focal point to the customer during the project; i.e., provides interface between YCA and the customer, involves other YCA personnel as appropriate; prepares all required reports; arranges joint YCA/customer project meetings; ensures customers are aware of evolving system characteristics; resolves any miscommunication; ensures customer satisfaction is maintained; makes periodic job site visits.
- Works with or acts as Proposal Manager on customer requirements; i.e., reviews RFP (Request for Proposal) and specification, coordinates with sales and marketing to determine scope of work and is responsible for scope definition, prepares and/or approves all cost estimates, develops preliminary implementation plan, may assist in the estimating, proposal, and sales process, controls final negotiations on engineering/construction project.
- Performs various management duties; i.e., provides data for YCA reports; keeps sales and marketing aware of customer interfaces; ensures project team members have the equipment, facilities, training, personnel and authority necessary to meet their objectives; interfaces with Accounting, Purchasing, H.R., as necessary.
- Depending on the project type and scope, the Project Manager may need to perform some of the engineering tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates leadership qualities with project personnel, supports corporate EEO policies, conducts goal setting, and performance reviews for assigned personnel. Responsible for development of personnel through training, coaching, and work assignments.
- Evaluates and identifies solutions to improve overall project profitability.
- Stays abreast of technical changes and trends in the assigned market industry and applies new knowledge to duties as appropriate.
- May support sales efforts by calling on potential clients.
- Responsible for providing uncompromising quality to all work processes in designated area of responsibility. Has the authority to stop work processes at any time it is believed quality is being compromised.
- Project Managers may be required to temporarily relocate to project sites based on job requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Project Manager Skills:
- Manages multiple (8-12) projects of higher complexity and/or value.
- Works independently of supervisor in most cases; communicates results to management; solicits support/advice/assistance when required to ensure/protect contract activities are consistent with procedures and customer requirements.
- Works directly with sales team members; makes sales support calls as required.
- Negotiates changes/C.O's as required to meet YCA and customer goals, with supervisor approval on all critical changes.
- Tracks/manages and reports all financial variables to management.
- Implements business unit procedures, re-working tracking, documentation requirements, etc., as required to fulfill project/contract obligations.
- Develops skills/abilities for negotiations, including strategies, costing, scheduling, etc.
- Understands YCA hardware and software deliverables.
- Has basic Process Controls knowledge.
- Has good internal and external communications skill.
- Has good organization and problem-solving skills.
SPECIFICATIONS
Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or similar degree, or equivalent experience. MBA is desirable but not required.
Prior Experience: Seven (7) to fifteen (15) years in digital process control systems integration, with prior experience to have included major management of engineering/technical staff.
Nuclear industry or Batch experience is a plus.
Must be willing to travel extensively for job assignments, maintain a rapport with customer representatives, and be dedicated to quality, service, productivity and customer satisfaction.
Quantifiable Indicators: Numbers of projects and their dollar amounts are widely variable from year to year for any specific project manager. Amounts are typically one to several million dollars, but could be much higher.
Evaluation Criteria: Project managers are evaluated primarily on their ability to complete their projects within budget and on schedule, while ensuring the customer's satisfaction.
