Responsibilities
Kforce has a client in San Antonio, TX that is looking for a Backup Administrator. Key Responsibilities:
- Database Backup Management: Backup Administrator will develop, implement, and manage backup strategies for all databases, ensuring regular and complete backups to protect against data loss
- Restore and Recovery: Perform database recovery in the event of data loss, corruption, or failure, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity
- Monitoring and Optimization: Regularly monitor backup jobs and processes to ensure they complete successfully and within the designated timeframes; Optimize backup procedures for efficiency and performance
- Disaster Recovery Planning: Collaborate with the IT team to develop and test disaster recovery plans, ensuring database systems can be restored in case of catastrophic events
- Data Integrity and Security: Ensure the security and integrity of databases during backup and restore operations, including encryption and secure storage of backup files
- Capacity Planning: Monitor database storage usage and plan for future capacity needs, ensuring that backup solutions are scalable and meet the organization's growth
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of backup and recovery processes, procedures, and schedules; Keep records of all backups, restores, and related activities
- Collaboration: Work closely with database administrators, developers, and system administrators to ensure that backup strategies align with business requirements and IT infrastructure
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to database backups, including failures, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity problems
- Compliance: Ensure that backup processes comply with industry standards, legal requirements, and organizational policies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator) are a plus
- 3-5 years of experience in database administration, with a focus on backup and recovery
- Experience with major database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL is required
- Hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning and execution for database systems
- Proficiency in database backup tools and technologies, including RMAN, SQL Server Management Studio, or similar
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automating backup tasks
- Knowledge of data security practices, including encryption and secure storage of backup files
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues related to database backups and restores
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document processes and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
