Job Title: Proofreader

Work Environment: 2 days in office / 2 days remote
Work Schedule: Mon – Thurs; 4pm – 1:45am – it will be a full time, 35-hour work schedule over 4-days.
**Must Haves:
- Must have at least 4-5 years of law firm experience
- Must be able to proofread EDGAR documents (will not need to act as an EDGAR Operator, but will need to be able to proofread EDGAR documents)
- Familiar with Legal Terminology
- Bluebook experience
Job Responsibilities
- The Proofreader reviews, examines, validates and makes appropriate grammatical, mathematical, typographical or compositional corrections.
- Examines and corrects EDGAR documentation.
- Proofreads documents for errors in typing, spelling and syntax to ensure proper placement of inserts, edits, tables and other documentation.
- Serves as a resource to redline and blackline documentation.
- Acts as a resource for all questions related to grammar and spelling.
- Follows, tracks and responds to all proofreading requests and meets deadlines for completion.
- Audits documentation for proper format, text accuracy and statistical data.
Experience
- 4-5 years of experience in editing and proofing documents required, within Legal Industry.
- Expert level knowledge of English language, grammar, spelling and punctuation; and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of proofing marks and procedures.
- Knowledge of current formats and citation protocols (The Chicago Manual of Style, The Bluebook and California Style Manual).
- Familiar with legal proofreading styles (Cold Read, Full Read, Definitions and Defined Terms Check).
- Familiarity with legal terminology, legal language and variety of citation and brief formats used in legal work.
- Ability to work with all levels of legal staff.
- Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information.
- Excellent communicator (oral and written).
- Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task.
