Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Location: Detroit, MI 48202
Pay Rate: $25/Hr.
Hours Per Week: 40.00
Shift Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (willing to be flexible)
Job Responsibilities:
1. Perform on-line edits and corrections to payroll system PeopleSoft.
2. Collaborate with HFH programmers and participate in testing payroll issues.
3. Calculate and audit special check requests from departments and HR.
4. Process internal adjustments by analyzing past payroll data and making necessary corrections.
5. Perform detailed corrections of exception time report edits within the PeopleSoft system.
6. Review and validate Kronos schedules and timekeeping, ensuring adherence to payroll guidelines.
7. Address complex payroll inquiries from HFH employees, timekeepers, and management personnel.
8. Communicate with employees and management regarding paycheck-related questions and concerns.
9. Process garnishment checks and mail legal statements to appropriate entities (e.g., Friend-of-the-Court, Attorneys, IRS).
10. Prepare stop payment and voided checks for timely reversal and reissue.
11. Process various payroll deductions (e.g., union dues, pharmacy, vendor sales).
12. Calculate incorrect payments and process adjustments to recover overpayments.
13. Independently select, interpret, and apply proper codes, rules, and regulations related to payroll transactions in the PeopleSoft system.
14. Collaborate with Payroll Analyst and Accounting team to ensure accurate general ledger allocations.
15. Ensure confidential information is handled securely and in accordance with company guidelines.
16. Correct 'no-time' edits for employees listed as active but with no recorded time.
17. Meet deadlines, manage pressure, and be available for overtime as needed.
18. Perform other special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Payroll certification (FPC or CPP) preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of related payroll experience required; hospital experience highly desirable.
Skills:
Extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft and Kronos systems.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Proficiency in managing confidential and sensitive information.
Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Certifications/Licensures: Must meet or exceed HFHS’ customer service standards, demonstrating qualities such as communication, ownership, understanding, motivation, sensitivity, excellence, teamwork, and respect.
Schedule Notes:
Candidates with experience as an analyst, particularly with timecards, Kronos, ADP, PeopleSoft, union contracts, garnishment experience, and an HR background, are highly desired.
The candidate must be able to complete comparison analysis, troubleshoot issues, and prioritize tasks effectively.
