Description
In this role, you will oversee a diverse range of programs at a dedicated community center, including Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education. Your responsibilities will encompass planning, developing, and supervising these programs and the staff involved, along with managing various administrative tasks such as recordkeeping and financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, administer, and oversee community center programs that foster youth development and support positive outcomes.
- Ensure all program areas are safe, well-maintained, and meet established standards.
- Guide and mentor members through training and activities tailored to their individual needs.
- Create, plan, and implement youth development programs aligned with organizational goals.
- Continuously evaluate programs to ensure they meet member needs and promote inclusivity.
- Monitor and control program expenditures to stay within budget.
- Serve as a liaison between members, parents, educators, and community organizations.
- Provide guidance to maintain discipline and foster acceptable behavior among members.
- Assess the effectiveness of programs, activities, staff, and volunteers.
- Offer leadership to staff, helping them understand and address individual member needs.
- Develop and implement special programs to meet evolving member needs.
- Increase awareness of community center programs through schedules and promotional materials.
- Plan and conduct programs using community resources and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in organizing regular staff and volunteer meetings.
- Recommend and manage the requisition of supplies and equipment.
- Supervise the care and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Administer CPR and first aid as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Relationships
- Maintain daily contact with staff, members, and supervisors to share information and provide guidance.
- Engage with community groups, schools, parents, and others to resolve challenges and support program goals.
Skills And Qualifications
- Preferably a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Recreation, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in planning and supervising activities for children.
- Strong management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Excel, Word, and email.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements; CDL Class B with passenger and air brake endorsements preferred.
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding discipline and counseling of members.
- Ability to design creative programs and improve existing ones.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Frequently lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
