Description of Project
- The Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT) is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Revenue (MDOR) in seeking an experienced Power BI and data analytics / visualization consultant to support MDOR in building out its agency wide data analytics offering and supporting a significant evolution of its financial data reporting in Power BI.
- At a high level, the resource will support a product team working in an agile methodology and must be able to independently research, analyze and propose data and visualization solutions based on the state's available data.
- In addition, the consultant will support the Director of Business Solutions & Continuity develop a roadmap for critical Power BI opportunities across the agency and required skills / talent to deliver on that roadmap.
Sample Tasks
- Mature/develop, with the Director of Business Solutions Division, our agency wide data analytics offering.
- Design and develop visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate complex data insights to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and develop data visualization solutions that meet their needs.
- Create and maintain documentation of data visualization processes, tools, and best practices.
- Work with data analysts to ensure that data is accurate, complete, and complies with relevant data practice requirements.
- Train and support other team members on data visualization tools and techniques.
- Design reports in accordance with State of Minnesota Branding and Accessibility Standards.
- Provide knowledge transfer and training where it is necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Three (3) years or more experience in creating complex Power BI visualizations dashboards.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL. Power Query, and DAX and familiarity with SSRS
- Successful experience working with business users from cross-functional teams to understand business needs.
- Experience working in an Agile and iterative manner releasing minimal viable product.
- Excellent communication skills and experiences with a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience creating and documenting process and best practices.
- Familiarity and experience with producing financial reporting (profit and loss, budget reporting, etc.)
- Familiarity with all Power Platform tools to utilize in conjunction with Power BI to automate reporting.
- Experience mentoring others
