Role: Data Governance Analyst
Location: Jackson, MS
Duration: 9 Months contract with possibility of extensions
Position Summary: The Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for managing incoming data and public records requests, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and overseeing the agency's Microsoft Purview data governance application. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate and timely responses to requests.
Key Responsibilities - Processing Data and Public Records Requests:
- Receiving Requests:
- Receive, log, and track incoming data and public records requests from non-media parties.
- Ensure proper documentation for timely processing.
- Legal Review and Redaction:
- Assist in the legal review of documents to determine necessary redactions for sensitive information.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and agency policies regarding public records disclosures.
- Data Retrieval and Compilation:
- Coordinate with relevant departments to retrieve requested data and compile necessary documents for disclosure.
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the information provided.
- Response Preparation:
- Prepare responses to data and public records requests in accordance with established timelines and legal requirements.
- Draft clear and complete correspondence and documentation.
- Communication and Follow-up:
- Communicate with requesters to clarify requests, provide status updates, and coordinate the delivery of requested information.
- Maintain records of all communications and actions related to each request.
- Microsoft Purview Oversight:
- Serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of the agency’s Microsoft Purview application.
- Manage data types within enterprise Microsoft 365 applications and other data sources related to public health subjects.
- Key duties include data cataloging, classification, lineage tracking, providing data insights, and ensuring compliance.
- Policy Development and Compliance:
- Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise policies, SOPs, and guidelines related to data management.
- Ensure policies align with federal and state data laws, regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and organizational objectives.
- Develop training materials and conduct sessions to educate agency staff on data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
- Data Management and Systems Development:
- Assist the Director of Data Governance in developing data management applications and systems to enhance the agency’s data capabilities.
- Support projects funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), specifically under Strategy A3: Data Modernization.
- Tasks include cataloging data resources, managing external data and public records requests, and organizing large datasets for analysis.
Required Skills/Experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with data governance tools and practices, preferably Microsoft Purview.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to data and public records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public health data management.
- Knowledge of data protection laws and compliance standards.
- Experience in policy development and training
