General Purpose:
The Sr. Network Security Engineer performs changes on networking equipment our managed services customers. Sr. Network Security Engineers also monitor our security tools to triage new security events, as well as identify and implement best practice responses. This role will work under the supervision of Network Changes & Security Manager and in partnership with the Network Security Administrators and Technicians. This position requires shift work, occasional overtime, and participation in an on-call rotation.
An experienced Sr. Network Security Engineer will have the ability to identify, design, and implement complex network changes to a wide array of customer environments. They can utilize commercial and open-source tools to quickly analyze, detect, and respond to cyber security incidents. Candidates must have the ability to learn new concepts and development methodologies quickly and have the ability to interact with other teams on time sensitive changes, and security events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced change management for managed network equipment and security appliances
- Monitoring and respond to various methods of customer communications to ensure our response times remain within defined SLAs, not limited to but including Call Centers, Email, and Ticketing Systems
- Triage incoming security events, perform in depth log analysis, and identifying & implementing recommended changes
- Communicating with customers to express steps taken to resolve security events and implement changes on managed network equipment
- Provide reporting and designing custom reporting solutions tailored to specific customers in our FortiAnalyzer platform
- Processing escalation for security events as well as changes related to managed network equipment and security appliances escalated from the Network Security Technicians and Administrators or management
- Performing post incident review analysis for escalated trouble tickets and security events
- Make recommendations on improving procedures
- Performing spot audits on customer network environments to ensure they remain up to date with industry best practice standards
- Designs and implements major changes in customer network architecture
- Assists with the evaluation of new products and technologies
- Support and participate in engineering efforts such as tool integration, development of automation scripts, testing of new tools and evaluation of new technologies.
- Remain engaged with technical forums and user groups
- Maintaining and updating team process and policy documentation
- Leading team training sessions
- Other relevant tasks as directed by department leadership
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Software and hardware knowledge of computing, storage, networking, and peripheral devices
- Ability to analyze packet captured data to identify troubles and security threats
- Strong understanding of security architectures and devices
- Strong understanding network design concepts
- The ability to redesign network environments to account for new customer needs or security threats
- Proficiency with case management and ticketing systems
- Superior customer service skills
- Phone and remote support experience, knowledge and resolution ability required
- Strong understanding of subnetting concepts including binary and hexadecimal numeral systems is required
- An understanding of basic programming (Python as an example) is preferred
- Strong understanding of layer 2 and 3 networking and associate protocols is required
- LogRhythm experience is highly desirable
- Desirable certifications include CCNA, CCNP, or similar
- Active security clearance is a plus but not required
