About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Computer Engineer (NH-0854-03) to work at the 96th Test Wing, Safety Office, Systems Safety Division (96 TW/SES) at Eglin Air Force Base.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a professional computer engineer and systems engineer for assigned program(s) and projects. Performs work to plan, analyze, and evaluate engineering and technical efforts used to define total weapons systems/subsystem requirements, translate requirements into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches, and develop system specifications in the area of Systems Safety. Establishes preliminary design and performance characteristics, and engineering responsibility extends through development and final approval for production and service use.

Location: Valparaiso, FL (Eglin Air Force Base)
Typical 2024 salary range: $86,962 - $134,435 per year (includes locality)
Telework Information: Up to 40% telework possible (must reside in local area)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Desired Skills:
- 2 years of experience planning and/or executing a system safety software program is desired; said experience supporting DoD weapon system acquisition is highly desired
- 2 years of experience completing system safety analysis (such as preliminary hazard analysis, failure modes/effects/criticality analysis, and fault tree analysis) is desired; said experience supporting DoD weapon system acquisition is highly desired
- 2 years of experience working with a DoD weapon system program office is desired; said experience supporting a Department of the Air Force weapon system program office is highly desired
Major Duties:
- Provide the 96 TW System Safety Office with subject matter expertise in the areas of software safety and computer engineering
- Assess the system safety risk of assigned projects to include new, modified, or acquired weapon systems and their constituents
- Provide technical justifications of assessed risk using disciplined, systematic, and quantifiable analysis approaches and methods such as (but not limited to) failure modes/effects/criticality analysis, fault tree analysis, probability analysis, requirements analysis, and root cause analysis
- Develop mitigating strategies to minimize or eliminate system safety risk per applicable policies and regulations and brief said strategies to project stakeholders
- Support the Joint Services Software Safety Authorities (JS-SSA) for Department of the Air Force weapon systems as System Safety's software safety expert
- Improve the methods, procedures, processes, and/or policies the System Safety office uses to execute its mission
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance (if applicable)
- Professional knowledge of a broad range of software safety and computer engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques
- Knowledge of system safety engineering concepts, policies, and practices sufficient to oversee weapon system safety programs
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, both orally and written, to peers, management, customers, and other agencies
- Skill negotiating and advocating complex technical and safety issues
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position.
- Education requirements – Engineering degree from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technical (ABET) or other Accreditation Board approved by OSF.
- DAWIA Certification – Must be certified at Practitioner (old Level II or III) in Engineering or able to achieve this APDP certification level.
- Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
- Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence systems acquisition, development, and/or sustainment.
- Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical. The workspace for this unit is located on the third floor of a facility that is not Architectural Barriers Act/Americans with Disabilities Act (ABA/ADA) compliant. If selected, an occupational health evaluation confirming the physical ability to ascend & descend stairs will be scheduled (at no cost to the member).
