Job Summary
Murphy Oil Corporation is seeking an accomplished Data & Analytics Manager who is well versed with delivering data and analytics platform, leverages emerging technologies and implements business intelligence tools.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leveraging data as a strategic asset, driving business value, and ensuring data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of data management, analytics, data infrastructure and architecture, and the ability to collaborate with various business units in a federated model. A typical day in a life would entail delivering value through data projects by collaborating with internal stakeholders as well as external partners. You will be supported by multi-location teams with expertise in various technologies, fusion business teams and a growing community of technology specialists.
The Data & Analytics Manager will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
- Overall: Enhance and own data and analytics vision, strategy and implementation practices. Collaborate with business stakeholders to validate and refine strategy. Establish operating model that empowers business and safeguards enterprise assets. Advocate for data-driven decision-making across the organization, ensuring data is a key asset and drives competitive advantage.
- Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with data teams within various business units to align data initiatives and promote best practices. Engage and establish strong relationships with business stakeholders at all levels with a goal to make data an enterprise asset. Foster technical community to advance technology goals (such as data, reporting, analytics etc.) and skills upliftment. Build compelling presentations and convey key messages with confidence to stakeholders.
- Data Strategy Execution: Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and analytics platforms. Understand and build upon data strategy. Design and oversee delivery of data products to ensure credibility, reuse, interoperability, and faster time to value. Lead the deployment of data and analytics platform for the enterprise including data systems, databases, warehouses, and lakes. Designs and implements processes for the ETL process from various sources into the organization’s data systems.
- Innovative Approach: With a focus to stay ahead in analytical approaches, emerging technologies, and platform, advocate fail fast, innovation driven culture and proof of concept based agile methodologies. Champion the adoption of Generative AI technologies within the organization, identifying opportunities to leverage AI for business improvement and innovation.
- Business Intelligence: Lead efforts to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret large datasets to provide actionable insights. Exhibit strong implementation experience of Spotfire and PowerBI. Understand multiple data sources and be able to put together practical and viable data models, integration flows for the analytics reports being prepared. Develop and track technical roadmap for feature enhancements.
- Governance and Controls: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, privacy, and security. Develop a framework for data quality management, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across the organization. Understand, support and ensure compliance with audit and control requirements. Effectively engage with auditors to explain observations with compensating controls and ensure zero deficiencies.
- Support Management: Oversee management of day-to-day support, operational activities, and enhancements as part of Managed Services delivery. Lead troubleshooting and resolution of critical production system data problems or functionality issues in order to facilitate high reliability and system performance.
- Team Management: Manage a diverse and geographically spread team of resources in a multi-vendor environment. Foster collaboration between IT, Fusion Teams and business stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in data management, analytics, or other data/ analytics field with minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise-wide data and analytics programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization
- Skilled in AI/ML techniques, Predictive Analytics and Generative AI design solutions
- Proficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as Azure cloud services, real-time data distribution (Kafka, Dataflow), and modern data warehouse tools (Databricks, Snowflake)
- Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, HANA
- Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as ETL and Power BI
- Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex technical material to diverse audiences ranging from business leadership to developers
- Desire and flexibility to work through details with keen attention to accuracy and interdependencies
Desired/ Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, data science, information systems or other technical related field
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in data management, analytics, or other data/ analytics field with minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise-wide data and analytics programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization. Upstream industry experience is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex data projects, with a track record of successful delivery
