You Are
UST is searching for a Data Scientist who will architect, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable ETL/ELT pipelines to collect, process, and store large datasets from multiple sources.
The Opportunity
- Data Integration: Develop and manage data integration processes between diverse data sources (structured and unstructured) and cloud or on-premises environments.
- Data Modeling: Design and maintain database schemas, data marts, and data warehouses to support analytical requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
- Optimization: Identify, analyze, and improve the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of data pipelines and systems.
- Data Quality & Governance: Ensure the quality, integrity, and accuracy of data by implementing data governance standards, validation checks, and auditing processes.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for data systems, pipelines, and processes.
- Monitoring: Implement monitoring solutions for data pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

What You Need
- Data Engineering Expertise: Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT processes, and building data pipelines.
- Database Management: Strong experience with relational databases (SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
- Data Warehousing: Proficiency in data warehousing solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar.
- Big Data Technologies: Experience with big data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or other distributed data processing systems.
- Cloud Platforms: Solid experience in cloud-based data solutions, such as AWS (Redshift, Glue, S3), Azure (Data Lake, Synapse), or Google Cloud (BigQuery, DataFlow).
- Programming Languages: Proficient in languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or similar for data manipulation and pipeline creation.
- Automation & Scheduling: Experience with workflow management tools such as Apache Airflow, Luigi, or similar for job scheduling and automation.
- Data Modeling: Expertise in dimensional data modeling and understanding of database normalization and denormalization practices.
- Data Security & Compliance: Familiarity with data security best practices, including encryption, role-based access control, and compliance regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
- Version Control: Experience with version control tools like Git for collaborative development and change tracking.
- Tools & Platforms: Familiarity with tools such as Apache NiFi, Talend, Informatica, or similar for data integration and ETL.
- Advanced Analytics: Experience with data analytics, reporting, and BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Machine Learning: Familiarity with data pipelines supporting machine learning models and AI applications.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or Azure Data Engineer Associate are a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills to address data challenges and complex business requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.
Role Location: Remote
Compensation Range: $90,000-$136,000
Benefits
Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
