Position Description
The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities are establishing an eligible list for Business Systems Analyst, Associate that will be used to fill vacancies for one year throughout all departments that utilize this classification.
Business Systems Analyst, Associates support a variety of services and are responsible for logistical coordination of department business systems and technology projects, as well as maintaining, compiling and organizing data, creating technical reports and assisting users. Business Systems Analyst, Associate positions exist throughout the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities. Work assignments and telework options vary by department.
Essential Duties Include
- Develops, edits and tracks procedures, business processes and workflows; making recommendations for business process and procedural improvements.
- Gathers and compiles data for business analysis; performing basic analysis, confirming data accuracy and identifying trends.
- Prepares technical reports; performing numerical and basic statistical calculations.
- Develops training and presentation materials.
- Creates and maintains business accountability systems.
- Coordinates schedules and other logistics for projects.
- Updates and maintains databases; creates and maintains spreadsheets.
- Provides basic assistance to users; collaborates with Information Technology for escalated problem-resolution.
Qualifications
Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree public or business administration, information technology or directly related field
Minimum Experience*
0-1 year depending upon assignment
- Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Selection Process & Supplemental Information
Examination
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will have their responses to the supplemental questions assessed and scored by a blind panel of subject matter experts. Applicants who receive a passing score will be placed on the eligible list for interview eligibility and hiring consideration.
Appointment is subject to passing a background check. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
