Description
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Instructional Designer to join our team and help expand access to higher education through online learning. In this role, you will play a crucial part in creating engaging and effective e-learning environments for working adult learners, particularly those from historically underserved communities. Your efforts will contribute to providing students with opportunities to advance their education and achieve their academic goals.
As an Instructional Designer, you will work closely with faculty, colleagues, and other stakeholders to design and develop high-quality online courses. You will support the integration of current and emerging technologies into our online programs and advocate for the effective use of e-learning tools within our educational culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to adapt existing courses for online delivery and other e-learning formats.
- Design and create online instructional materials based on sound educational theory and instructional design best practices.
- Develop course content in partnership with faculty, departments, and other stakeholders.
- Enhance teaching and learning environments by incorporating active learning strategies and appropriate instructional technologies.
- Ensure the creation of accessible instructional content.
- Design, develop, and maintain course templates within the learning management system for various online programs.
- Utilize instructional technologies to support educational and administrative needs.
- Design and implement tools and resources to enhance the e-learning experience for students.
- Conduct online workshops and support faculty in using different educational technologies.
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, and develop technical reference materials for instructional technologies.
- Assist with helpdesk support via email, online ticketing systems, and other communication methods.
- Maintain certifications in quality assurance best practices and review courses annually.
- Support course design feedback and evaluation processes.
- Coordinate with staff to share feedback and update courses as needed.
- Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts related to professional development opportunities.
- Generate reports and provide analysis to the Senior Director.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Expertise in learning management systems and instructional technologies.
- Ability to assess and address the needs of faculty, staff, and students to develop instructional solutions.
- Familiarity with best practices in online course design and quality assurance.
- Proficiency in web and mobile technologies.
- Skills in using software applications and web-based authoring tools (e.g., Camtasia, Photoshop, HTML editors, Zoom, Microsoft Office).
- Knowledge of systems analysis, development, and database analysis.
- Ability to design user-friendly interfaces that meet accessibility standards.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a professional and respectful demeanor.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or a related field, or equivalent coursework.
- Three years of experience in supporting information systems and technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- Experience in educational technology, instructional design, or distributed learning.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems and technical information systems.
- Experience in course development, design, and teaching workshops in higher education.
Compensation
- Classification: Instructional Technology Consultant - Career
- Anticipated Hiring Range: \(6,000 - \)6,292 per month
- Salary Range: \(4,912 - \)12,124 per month
- Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of base salary.
