Position Overview:

TOKYOPOP is seeking a meticulous and passionate Editor to join our editorial team. The Editor will be responsible for overseeing all stages of the production process for manga, manhwa, and graphic novels. This role involves working with both licensed content and original projects developed in collaboration with IP holders. The ideal candidate will have strong collaborative skills, exceptional organizational abilities, a passion for a broad range of genres and diverse content, and a deep understanding of the manga and comics industry.

Key Responsibilities:

● Production Oversight: Manage the entire production process for manga, manhwa, and graphic novels, ensuring each project is completed on schedule and to the highest editorial standards.

● Collaborative Work: Coordinate with artists, writers, translators, letterers, and creative teams to produce high-quality content. Facilitate smooth communication and collaboration among all parties involved.

● Quality Assurance: Ensure that each book meets TOKYOPOP’s quality standards, including accurate localization, good dialogue flow, error-free text, and correct formatting.

● Editorial Excellence: Apply a keen editorial eye to each project. Review and edit content for clarity, consistency, and adherence to style guides. Perform copy editing and proofreading tasks to eliminate typos and mistakes.

● Trend Awareness: Stay informed about trends within the manga and comics industry, as well as fandom expectations and reader preferences. Use this knowledge to guide editorial decisions and content development.

● Project Management: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that deadlines are met and schedules are adhered to. Maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail throughout the production process.

● Localization: Ensure that content is localized appropriately for its target audience, respecting cultural nuances and maintaining the integrity of the original work.

Qualifications:

● Experience: Proven experience (3-5 years) in editorial roles within the manga, comics, or publishing industry. Experience in copy editing and similar editorial tasks is required.

● Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong communication and collaborative abilities. Must be confident in handling multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.

● Knowledge: Deep passion for manga, manhwa, and graphic novels. Understanding of industry trends, reader expectations, and cultural context. Knowledge of Japanese, Chinese, or Korean is a plus.

● Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience in the industry will be considered.
