The Data Engineer works within the Retrieval Operations to lead the evolution and standardization of data tools and processes. Act as a driving force in optimizing processes to achieve cost-efficiency, high quality, and timely delivery in a high-volume production environment . As a Data Engineer at Episource, you will be a key innovator and contributor, ensuring data integrity and operational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities
- Support the ETL process for operations data and drive process consistency to move towards automation
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to proactively identify and address priority business questions within Retrieval Operations
- Enhance the comprehensive view of our operations data and its impact on our operations and business teams, providing insights to other organizational teams
- Identify and advocate for opportunities to improve operations data quality
- Ensure consistent adoption of standards, processes, and methodologies within a team. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the team’s overall productivity
- Provide data leadership and coordination among internal stakeholders and departments
- Ensure data accuracy and timeliness for internal and external stakeholders, with well-defined and agreed-upon metrics
- Develop and maintain solid leadership with all internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the healthcare or technology industry
- Experience in handling large datasets, building data workflows, and integrating with cloud-based platforms like AWS or Snowflake
- Solid SQL knowledge, including complex query design, performance optimization (e.g., indexing, query plan analysis), and experience with window functions, CTEs (Common Table Expressions), subqueries, and joins
- Expertise in working with large-scale databases (e.g. PostgresSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, or Redshift), designing efficient schema structures, and conducting data transformations within ETL pipelines
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office-Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficient in Python, with a focus on data engineering applications, including ETL processes, data pipelines, and working libraries such as Pandas, PySpark, and SQLAlchemy
- Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dbt (Data Build Tool) is a plus, particularly in building, testing, and deploying data models, automating data transformations, and maintaining version control in data engineering workflows
- Experience with data pipelines, data warehousing, and workflow management tools, including AWS S3 for storage, EC2 and EMR for scalable processing, and Airflow for orchestrating complex workflows
- Proficient in managing data through its lifecycle (especially sourcing, validating, and deploying)
- Solid understanding of Salesforce data structures and relationships, with experience in connecting and extracting data from Salesforce using Python
- Background working with healthcare data such as provider, claims, and/or member data

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
