Description Of Work
The position is a Nurse Supervisor I located at Caswell Correctional Center in Blanch, North Carolina. This position is responsible for both Caswell Correctional Center which houses approximately 484 medium custody male offenders and Dan River Prison which houses approximately 640 minimum custody offenders. This position reports directly to the Associate Warden – Programs.
This position is the highest level of nursing supervision and the Health Authority responsible for the daily management/operation of the facility nursing operation. The Nurse Supervisor I is responsible for ensuring professional nursing care and treatment is afforded to patients within medical policies, protocols and consistent with Board of Nursing requirements. This position attends regional and facility management meetings as well as coordinates internal meetings for nursing staff.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Direct supervision of all nursing staff to include staff schedules, assignments, orientation, performance improvement evaluations, and clinical competency evaluations.
- Supervises and conducts needs assessments, develops, implements and evaluates treatment plans and provides patient care and education to offenders.
- Ensures all policies and procedures are followed and submit short and long term goals to Leadership for review and approval.
- Performs administrative duties such as planning, organizing and managing daily operations, quality assurance, Human Resource management functions, and staff development.
- Required to develop and maintain effective communication and work relationships with Physicians, upper management healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies and other.
- Must have the ability to identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for the facility.
- May be required to work any schedule to ensure medical operations needs are met at the facility level.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience.

The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
