Richmond magazine is seeking candidates for a newly created position. The Associate Editor will be the primary copy editor for all of our print publications while also managing edit-driven client projects and will contribute to Richmond magazine as time permits. This position reports to the editorial director.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing client projects; strong copy-editing and writing skills, including grammar, usage and AP style; and a thorough knowledge of Richmond. Candidates will be required to pass a copy-editing test. A bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in publishing, journalism or agency work are required.

- Ability to write catchy headlines, appealing short blurbs, and clean, interesting, well-researched articles
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and the Adobe suite
Responsibilities include:
- Copy-edit text and layouts (20 issues/year)
- Manage long- and short-term client projects, including planning, assigning, writing, and editing stories and collaborating with the art department
- Manage deadlines, budgets, freelance writers, and invoices for all projects
- Manage and update extensive contact lists
- Pitch, report, and write print and/or online stories as time permits
- Contribute to weekly email newsletters and social media posts as needed
