Agility Recruiting is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our client, a city in the East Bay, to cover a family leave for seven months. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of our company's payroll operations, including processing biweekly payroll, maintaining employee payroll records, filing payroll taxes, and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations. Working in a similar role at a city is helpful experience!
Key Responsibilities:
- Process biweekly payroll for all employees, including calculating wages, withholdings, deductions, and net pay
- Maintain detailed payroll records and employee files, including W-4s, I-9s, and other payroll documentation
- Prepare and file all federal, state, and local payroll tax returns and payments on time
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and provide payroll reports to management
- Administer employee benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off
- Serve as the main point of contact for employee payroll inquiries and resolve any discrepancies
- Stay up-to-date on changes to payroll laws, regulations, and best practices
- Collaborate with the HR department to ensure accurate employee information and payroll data
- Assist with month-end, quarterly, and year-end accounting close processes as needed
Qualifications:
- Two plus years of experience working as a Payroll Administrator or in a similar payroll role
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and labor laws
- Proficient in using payroll software and spreadsheet applications
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
